I mean I know you don't want him gone. But are you really worried?

For the first time in my life I'm not concerned. I honestly belive that if he does leave our administration will make the right hire.

But I'm more worried about Hevesy and Balis going with him, which they will if he leaves.

a seamless transition with someone who knows the coaches, the area, the players and you get someone who by all accounts can recruit better than Mullen himself. Not worried at all.

How could you not care? He's coached us to back-to-back bowls in three years. In his second year we beat Georgia, Florida, and Michigan (I don't care how bad they were... they all still went bowling). He used a 2-star QB to beat our rival 3 years straight. He took over after a 45-0 egg bowl loss and energized our fan base about as much as humanly possible. We have a season ticket waiting list, we're selling out games, packing the stadium every game, bringing more fans to spring games than UM can get tomost SEC games, upgrading facilities, and so on. Plus, UM fans hate him.

I don't think all this will fall apart if he leaves, but we've got a good thing going. I don't want to stop it now. We're delusional if we think we can easily replace him and not miss a beat.

how anybody can be not at all concerned if Mullen leaves. "Seamless transition" seems a little to optimistic to me. What about Russell? What about the recruits that Mullen actually did manage to grab that are waiting for their shot? Mullen has brought us to back to back bowl years...how has everyone gotten to the point of dismissing these that fact? I'm definitely less concerned than I was this time last year, but I don't get how some people are basically washing their hands of Mullen and moving on. Do some of y'all actually think we'll be better next year without Mullen? If so, please explain. I'm lost.

I don't want him to leave either.

What I'm basically getting at is that I feel much better knowing that we don't have two idiots left behind to hire the new coach. Five years ago I would have known that we were 17'd. I'm at least much more comfortable that we have people in place to handle this much better. </p>

we've ever had. Even if we hire someone I feel good about (like Hud) I won't really know what we've got until we go through a couple of seasons with him. Its basically starting over again.

I have confidence in Stricklin/Keenum to hold this together. Dan Mullen is not the end all be all. Yes he energized the program. But he wasn't the only one involved.

about Mullen possibly leaving if we had replicated last season again this season. No doubt this season overall was a slight disappointment. I still think Mullen is an excellent coach but I saw some flaws this year with him in play calling and game management (see LSU and LT) that, at least to me, weren't that noticeable the first 2 years. So that, along with what at least appears to be less than stellar recruiting, makes the possibility that he might leave a little easier to accept as a fan.

enthusiasm for Dan . That was a huge game in many ways both on and off the field and we had the better team. We owed those mofos. Dan did a really ****** job at the end of that game.</p>

We have been traditionally known as a place where coaches go to die, a coaching graveyard.Penn 17ing State is supposedly trying to hire our current coach. Let that sink in.

I don't care about the Sandusky issues. This is still Penn State. They have some of the deepest pockets in college football and easily one of the best traditions in football. Players fall all over themselves to play there. They have had the same coach for decades and when the position comes open, no matter the circumstance, they look at little ol' MSU for their next hire.

Thinking Mullen is easily replaceable doesn't sit well with me on that point alone. Our administration might make the right hire here and I will be happy about it, but there will most likely be a few bumps in the road regardless of who they hire. I like maroon koolaid but not that damn much. </p>

because he has started a great football program and it's a whole lot better than what we had 5 or 6 years ago. I think Mullen brings a lot of energy and excitement to Mississippi State football and it is something that has been lacking therefor a long time. Also, no player in the right mind wants to play for a program that crumbling into the ground at the Grove. I just don't think alot of people give Mullen more credit than what he deserves andhas done for this team, school, program and the fans.

I like having a known positive situation...
I like knowing that our team will Show Up! and be competitive.

Relentless Effort! We may lose, may get beat, but Damit we try...that is what DM brings to the table.

Look at florida. They have had a huge drop off. Look at several other teams around the nation. A coach leaves, same talent is basically in place and a significant drop off. Why is Hud such a shoe in, but say, Will Muschamp is not?

Terrible example. Muschamp came in and basically said "17 everything Urban did, we're running the most traditional NFL offense possible" with a bunch of guys who have been playing spread football since high school. It's pretty similar to the Colts on defense too. They're undersized and worked because of their offensive output.

Hud is Mullen 2.0... same offense, same mindset.

I don't personally believe it will be close to seamless, but I see where people are coming from. From what I've heard, all Mullen's assistants liked Hud more than him.

And Hud can recruit this State. The dropoff, though, will probably be in the loss of Hevesy, Balis, and maybe even Chris Wilson.<div class="ugdv_contextMenu" id="ugdv_myMenu" style="display: none; "><ul id="ugdv_contextMenu">[*]Open in Google Docs Viewer[*]Open link in new tab[*]Open link in new window[*]Open link in new incognito window[*][*]Download file[*]Copy link address[*]Edit PDF File on PDFescape.com[/list]</div><div id="ugdv_jqContextMenu"></div><div></div><div>

Dan is the best thing that's ever happened to MSU athletics. All you have to do is look at how attendance has increased, and that's attributable to Dan (and to Templeton being gone).

If Mullen went to Penn State, and I mean if... I don't see Wilson going with him. Tom Bradley will be the DC for whoever they hire.

Not to mention, Wilson would be retarded to leave. With the addition of a decent DE, we might have one of the top 10 best DL's for the next 2 years, 5 if Quay and Nick James follow through. Once that train left, he's looking at a HC position.

Would Hud bring Steve Campbell (back) to State? Was State's OL coach in 2003, since then he's been HC at MS Gulf Coast JC. Won the DII National Championship as the head coach at Delta State. Has won a JUCO national championship at MGCJC, too. Interviewed in 2009 to be Chizik's OL coach at Auburn.

Was listening to Head to Head on the way home and thinking to myself that I wish he would just go ahead, leave and get this crap over with. It will be the samegarbage every year as long as he's at MSU.

Then the two scenarios that would either play out dawned on me, and I realized that the Injuns pretty much have a nice, tightstrangle hold on our collective balls. Either MSU will hire a bona-fide dumpster fire, further adding to thehistorical pile of **** that MSU football is known for......OR, MSU will hire a young hot shot who energizesthe fans and takesthe teamto a couple of bowls. Said coach's name will come up forevery vacancy every damn year and this whole edge-of-your-seat process will start over.

Mississippi State....whoo....damn right.

His special teams have been generally awful, his recruiting mediocre by SEC standards, and some in-game playing calling has been abysmal. I'm probably as concerned about Chris Wilson staying as I am any other coach on staff.

..don't care what Mullen does.

In 3 years, he never beat a SECW team outside of you-know-who. Plus this year he tanked a pre-season top 20 team.

There are dozens of coaches in America that can land in Starkville & meet that criteria.
