would possibly suffer at the gate. They and Hattiesburg get a paycheck, and State and Starkville get screwed.

It was raining up until kickoff and then the sun came out... my mother and stepfather were at that game until midway through the third quarter. They would have stuck around but their seats were on the east side-- with the sun on them. Having over 31,000 attendance though is pretty good considering.

That being said, I think USM's average attendance might be a factor why 2-1 is allegedly being promoted.

Umm.... I did not see 31K in that video and it was just before kickoff. I know their stadium holds around 39K and it looked to be about 60% full. Really does not matter though the attendance there is aways pittiful. They are playing a BCS school and that's when they draw the biggest crowd. Their conference games are where they are lacking in numbers. 2-1 or I will be pissed at Byrne.

that's a good crowd compared to the ones that were there when I was there. They would announce crowds at 30K that couldn't have been a person over 15K

One year when I was a kid Southern only had 4 home games. 4 freaking home games. During the early years of Bower they would only pull about 10K to a game.

31,170 in attendance according to USM, which is probably paid attendance-- or does USM count people at the gates? The attendance is not too bad considering-- and actually compares favorably to other home games versus BCS conference schools when considering the weather and Virginia not being too good this year currently.1

...why are there five state-supported universities in counties north of (and including those counties where) Highway 82 travels and only two (counting Alcorn's campus in Natchez) south of (and including those counties where) Highway 84 travels.

South Mississippians have long been frustrated at state leaders for many perceived and real inequalities-- one of the most notorious ones being the old way of allocating representatives and senators in the state legislature, which helped out north Mississippi to the detriment of the south.

Oh, and you're wrong about there being no major universities west of I-55-- I know it's counted as part of Ole Miss, but the med school is west of the interstate.

it's no wonder USM had been pushing hard for the Gulf Coast campus, which also works to keep the in-state students at in-state schools. I believe South Alabama offers tuition breaks to some Gulf Coast students. I don't know about UNO.

Edit to add: Some people don't want to travel four hours to college.

They'll find stuff to complain about. I'm from Tupelo. I received a full ride to go to USM. Therefore, I made the 3 1/2 hour trip down south to get educated there. Point being, all three Universities are very accessible from wherever in the state you are.

Then those people are dumbasses and probably don't belong in college. I reckon I don't know bout drivin all tha way up to dang ol Jackson to go to the kollege. Guess I'll just go to Co-Lin and they'll learn me how to fix TV's. Jeebus, no wonder MS is last in everything. Get out of podunk and explore the world. Hell, just explore the frickin state, we aren't asking much here.

But, what other means of deciding where Universities should be would you have than to orient them toward the population of the state?

MS needs a Jackson-based urban commuter campus -- JSU-- or what JSU could become perhaps.

After that, I think you could make the case that we need one in the North and one in the South. Of course, the battle of whether Ole Miss or MSU would be the one in the North would be never ending. Southern is located strategically in the South.

I think it is retarded, however ,to permit the following colleges to exist, in order in which I would close them:

1. MUW
2. Valley
3. Alcorn
4. DSU

online education has more flaws than traditional brick and mortar classroom settings...and that is saying a lot.

Who cares about what you are talking about? The thread was about USM being able to hold all of our fans in their crap stadium. You just have to defend everything Southern Miss on this board. I don't see anything Maroon about what you post at all. You just wait for a thread about USM and post some ******** about how USM has been discriminated against by being placed in the southern part of the state. Go to the End Zone, grab some wings and dollar PBR and get your life on with.

What the $!$ are you even talking about?

You didn't like those references? How about to the NCAA weekly attendance report.

NCAA weekly attendance 9-19

Where are those 34,000 Bulldogs that are going to take over opposing teams stadiums? This was a SEC Conference game and only 31,840 people showed up in Nashville. The Nashville - Davidson county area has over 600,000 people and you can't find but 700 more people for the game than little ole Southern Miss in Hattiesburg??? Please explain.

You have any issues with thread hijacking, you take it up with him.

As far as your comments concerning discrimination towards southern Mississippians, historically, the southern part of the state had gotten short shrift from state legislative leaders. The House Speakers have for the most part (John Junkin from Natchez excepted) in the past 65 years come from northern Mississippi. It wasn't until the 1970s when legislative redistricting was mandated to provide equal representation to people residing in southern Mississippi that it began to change and things started to get better beginning in the late 1980s with legislation and as southern legislators gained seniority-- before then, legislators in the northern part of the state had numerical seniority. That is a fact.

Incidentally, I have two degrees from MSU and one from USM. I root for MSU, and I root for USM, and when MSU plays USM, I root for MSU. If you can't handle a MSU fan and alumnus also being pro-USM, tough.

If you are comparing Vandy to the remainder of the SEC then you are sadly making your self sound like a $%@#%*# idiot.

10,000 of those fans at Vandy's stadium were State fans. Southern would being maybe 500.

Starkville is WAY closer to Hattiesburg than it is to Nashville.

Again, you have only made two posts and already sound like the village idiot. Plus your a fan of Southern Miss.

but more to do with how our state leaders allowed yet ANOTHER university to be created. I agree it might have been more convenient for State to have been located in Jackson or someone further south to begin with, but that was not the case. What about people in Louisiana? You probably dont here much bitching about having to drive ALL THE WAY to Baton Rouge.

In my opinion thouh, (dont crucify me here) there shouldn't even be a Mississippi State, there really only needs to be one university in this state.

Yeah, there are flaws in online education as well as advantages. An advantage: I know several people who wouldn't have been able to earn their graduate degrees if it wasn't for online classes. A flaw: I've always told students that uninformed students expect online classes to be easy; however, online classes are like independent study courses in that students have to be highly self-motivated.

I know speech profs who've taught public speaking online, and yes, public speaking posted to the web seems weird, but the profs I know all require that students have to be speaking to an audience who would be shown in their submitted videos.

Except for the fact that, USM is averaging around 31,000 a game this year and averaged over 30,000 last year. So, you know, you're wrong and an idiot.

As evidence from the video, and the reports put out by southern, they must report only the paid crowd and not who actually shows at games. Look at a picture of the MSU-Jstate game and see an example of a sold out crowd.

No, there were 31,000+ there. If they were going to lie about the attendance, they wouldn't have announced 27,000 for the UCF game.

Back in the 80's Southern Miss played their home games at the Jackson colliseum, and away games at Starkville, why couldn't the same be true now?

Yeah see, that is what the rest of the SEC says about State - if you are comparing State to the rest of the SEC you are making yourself sound like an idiot.

But let's not get off topic and start name calling. The original premise of this thread was does Southern Miss have enough room for Bulldog fans. The statement in the first thread with the video was "Playing a BCS school and cant even get close to filling up their piece of **** stadium." This was followed by the statement that 34,00 Bulldog fans would come to the game.

Unfortunately, the attendance in Nashville does not support your premise that you can fill a stadium on the road that holds approximately 40,000. So you are saying that out of the 34,000 that would come to Hattiesburg, only 10,000 can make it to Nashville because it is too far??? Nashville is only 80 miles farther from Starkville than Hattiesburg. So 2/3s of the traveling Bulldogs can't make it that extra 1 hour on the road? No worries, maybe when it is time to go to Middle Tennessee the Bulldogs will find an away stadium they can sell out.

the majority of our fanbase lives in Starkville? How far is it from Jackson to Hattiesburg versus Nashville? And don't listen to Ghost of Jackie/Coach33, he's an idiot who can't form rational arguments.
