Also, they haven't had much reason to come to Starkville the past few years.to answer your question : yes, I do think they'll eventually have gameday in town.

I think that totally depends on how many wins we've got at that point. No doubt it'll be televised, but I'm not really sure about Gameday.

and our students/fans/administration will make me feel ashamed to be a State fan. We simply are NOT a basketball school... I do think that they will make it to Starkville before Oxford though, but who knows?

I really don't think the Mullen/UF storyline is really that big of a sell for TV. Your game with UF will likely be on some station simply because UF will likely be No. 1 in the country, but unless you've gone on some kind of tear to be in the Top 25, I don't see it being Gameday worthy, unless the slate of games that week is awful.

By the way, now that Vandy lucked into hosting Gameday last year, every SEC school except for Ole Miss and MSU has hosted it at least once.

I'd be curious to know why you think it'll make the trip to Starkville before Oxford though. Given that we're likely going to be a Top 15 team pre-season this year with a couple of games in Oxford against other pre-season Top 10 or 15 teams (LSU and Alabama), I'd think we might actually be closer to being in that position. Just curious to hear your take.

The only time I remember even thinking we had a shot was in 2003 against LSU, and I think they opted to go to South Bend.

Edited: They went to OSU/Michigan, not South Bend.

...that we were set to have gameday come in one year...I think maybe 2000...but we lost the preceeding week to South Carolina and gameday went elsewhere.

Fowler said it himself in his weekly article.....Gameday was coming to Starkville if we had just taken care of business @ SCar.

We beat them, and believe ended up scoring the most points that has ever been put on them. Whether it was the most or not, we crushed them, and if Gameday would have been there, It would have been an even bigger win for the program.

which game was after the carolina game that year?
Florida the year we shredded their D and ended Jesse "The Bachelor" Palmer's college career. I think GABully24 was attempting to answer your question with his post but he doesn't know how to reply, apparently.

That was one of the damndest plays I've ever seen. The backup QB comes straight off the bench with no warmup and on the first plays throws a perfect TD pass on 4th down to win the game against great coverage. That's Disney movie quality. If you add in the fact that it prevented Gameday from coming to Mississippi for the first time, then it goes into Bryce Drew territory doesn't it?

Gameday won't be in Oxford for Bama unless both teams are 5-0 and unless Florida or LSU lose early. Florida-LSU in Baton Rouge is the same weekend of the Ole Miss-Bama game this fall. So unless the Ole Miss-Bama game is somehow significantly more attractive, they'll be in Baton Rouge that weekend, especially with LSU being a pre-season Top 10 and Florida being the national title favorite.

In 2003, when we played LSU, they'd have been in Oxford if Purdue had beaten Ohio State the previous week in overtime. Instead, Ohio State held on making the OSU-Michigan game effectively the Big 10 title game that year. So, they went to that game instead.

UT at ALA

Penn St at Mich

Texas at Missouri - probably not worth it with daniels and maclin gone

Oregon St at USC

Boston College at Notre Dame - see Texas at Missouri

Clemson at Miami

So, depending on if anything goes to Thursday, Notre Dame is almost gauranteed an early game they always are, and USC Oregon St only draw is that they beat them last year.

Penn St - Michigan has a chance, depending on how Mich is doing at this point

But I don't think UT @ Ala will be enough to pull it away if they did want to come to Starkville.

This is not to say that gameday WILL OR WILL NOT come to Starkville, I was just looking at the helmet schedules I could find and making an observation that there arent too many good games to compete with that weekend

There's my take, give me your opinions

In the case of the Eubanks book, I DID live long enough to see it happen.

GameDay, on the other hand...I could hope.

I had just moved to Columbia and I invited my parents up for the weekend and got them tickets to the game. My wife and I were all excited having my parents in and going to the game and they were our first guest in our new house, it was going to be a great weekend.

Local High School star Eric Kimrey comes in on a 4th and long play and throws a perfect fade pass and totally 17s up my entire weekend. Till this day anytime I get in an arguement with any of my neighbors regarding State and SCar football, they always bring up "The Fade". One of the single worst plays in MSU football history and also the start of Jackie's downfall.

The only way I see Gameday being in Starkville is if...........
1. Both State and Florida are undefeated going into the game.
2. State has the spread offense working perfectly.
3. State has been scoring at least 40+ a game.
4. They are holding the other teams offenses to less than 100 yards a game.
5. They are the only two teams playing that weekend.
