Do you think Veazey handled Tittygate appropriately?

Is it MSU news even though it's negative? Yes.

Are 18 year olds still going to go to strip clubs no matter what kind of rules and regulations they try to put in? Yes.

Who freaking cares.

TEXAS HAS A WHOREHOUSE IN IT

then, NO. This has got to be the dumbest non-story that has been overblown because of one person (VZ) ever. Does anyone really think any other school's beat writer would make this a front page story on the State's newspaper? Anybody??

He researched a story that was uncovered by someone other than himself, wrote about it on his blog (which is not a news story, but updates on what he is doing and tidbits of info he discovers), the university made a statement because he AND other journalists were asking questions about it, and then he wrote a story which the EDITORS at the CL decided was newsworthy enough to put on the front page. Believe it or not, the CL is in the business of making money. I know, such an odd concept.

What should he have done? Pretend it didn't happen and then look bad in front of his bosses when other people STILL write about the story?

Yes there was no crime, no violation, but KV was doing his job in the fact he was reporting on something that was thrown to his attention, the people jumping on KV are making it bigger news then it needs to be...just let it rest

writing about this story? And don't give me deadspin or some other website that I'm sure OM internet guy has emailed the 'story' to - give me another newspaper or another 'journalist'. Some kids went to a stripclub. Big deal. This is not newsworthy. No violations occured and the kid that posted on facebook is saying it was just a joke. Who really fvcking cares if some recruits go out to a stripclub to see some fvcking tittays? It's not like they were arrested for making it rain and firing some gun shots a la pacman Jones. Again, this would not be a big deal AT ALL had VZ run with it. It's a dumb fvcking story that is intended to make MState look bad and is not newsworthy AT ALL. Let me ask you this - what if our baseball team decides to go to The Pony for a night of tittays? No one gets arrested but a couple of guys are simply spotted there. Is that a front page story as well?

That at first he started to stir things up based on internet message board rumors, and facebook statuses. I think he covered his *** good with his article in the CL today

do you fail to comprehend?

[]]http://www.huffingtonpost...e-recruit_n_428516.html][/url] for one. I'm not arguing that anything will come out of it, but how hard is it to understand that RECRUITS ON OFFICIAL VISITS, VISITING A STRIP CLUB, WHETHER UNIVERSITY SANCTIONED OR NOT IS A BIG DEAL? It always has been and ALWAYS will be.

These are recruits, 2 weeks from signing day, doing something controversial during their official visits. It's not even close to the same thing as some guys from the baseball team going to the strip club.

/facepalm

I put it on the same level as printing a story about a recruit sticking his finger in some cheerleader's bean dip and bragging about it on the facebook. Is that a newsworthy story. Hell no!!!!! But wait, the press could spin this into MSU cheerleader's are prostituting themselves to get recruits to come to state. </p>

and that was a blog, not a front page newspaper story. Yes, this is something to be talked about on the intarwebs, but it is simply not worthy of a front page sports section in a State newspaper. No violations by our school occured and our coaches and admins knew nothing about it. No kind of trouble occured and no NCAA violations happened. Therefore, it is not something that should be on the front page of the sports section in our State's paper. We will agree to disagree.

The facts appear to be that this is simply an isolated minor violation of our own recruiting policies, which will be reported to the NCAA and that will be the end of it. If we'd known about it or approved it in advance or if it was happening regularly, then yeah, it would have been a scandal. But what it is is really no big deal. It is fun to talk about it though.

I voted no. Veazey is a good reporter but I think he gets his Jolly's off on the negative stuff which is what pisses me off. Of course, if I were stuck writing about Ole Miss I'd probably be doing the same thing.

For all Veazey knew, this could have been a massive scandal that led to the death penalty for Mississippi State, so it was definitely worth looking into. It was not, however, worth breaking your policy of not posting rumors, thereby getting everyone in the state worked up over ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
