Doctor?

In light of celebrating another trip around the sun, do y’all have any recommendations for a good general doctor in/around Madison? I’ve relied on military physicals for the entirety of my youth but have lately had the inclination to start seeking non-military grade medical advice and having consistency.

Richard Russell is at St D in Madison and a dawg.

One word about civilian doctors, they want to get you on prescription medication. Maybe your cholesterol is just a little out of the established range, they immediately want to get you on Crestor or some other type of meds. Same with blood pressure, etc.

I agree with this statement 100%. And I used to see B. Black at Baptist in Madison…he falls into the pill pusher category

Dr. Russell is a throw back type doctor. I've used him for years. I have gone in his office whining about this or that when he basically told me to go "rub some dirt on it" but he has also correctly diagnosed some things that "specialists" have misdiagnosed . I like his staff also .

The same people that complain about docs writing too many prescriptions seem to be the same ones that complain about every little ache and want a pill to fix it. And ask for a rocephin shot, steroid, and antibiotics when their nose trickles.

Hmmm....
My cholesterol has been just outside the preferred range for years and I've never had a doctor try to give me medication for it. Maybe I'm just lucky

Oh no, I gotta have that.

Ok maybe you could skimp on your heartburn med.

No, can’t go without that.

We could reduce or wean your anxiety med.

No definitely shouldn’t do that.

U could stop smoking so u won’t need your inhaler as much.

(blank stare)

Well, just take your damn medicines then.

And therein lies the problem with medicine today. There's a pill to solve everything, and if it's not the solution there's a pill to offset whatever negatives the first pill is causing.

I will say this. If you're 25+ lbs overweight (as is common), it's going to negatively affect your health and that is something you need to address. If you can't lose the weight, just take the pills, because they will probably do more good than harm in your case.

And I say this as a guy who spent a lot of time overweight, but I'm not now. Amazing how much better you will feel.

If you ain’t msbcbs, you ain’t gettin seen but he’s cool. My favorite 2 doctors in Madison Co were both mentioned in this thread. Gene Loper & Bard Johnston are both awesome guys & drs. While we’re here, if you need a dentist, Jim Polles is the man and worth the drive to Lakeland from Madison.

My cholesterol was just outside the range for several years, too. My doctor wanted me on something the last year or so, but I was in great shape (long runs, heavy cardio workouts), never smoked, ate healthy ….. I had a widowmaker heart attack while laying in the emergency room 10 weeks ago. Hit 100% blockage in the LAD and after 2 heart caths, left the hospital with a stent and a clot in my left ventricle. I take 10 pills a day now. It sucks. One may not have been so bad. Please, be careful.
