There was a time when the focus of college athletes was about education for the student. That time has long past.College presidents have let things get out of control. Now they are beholden to paying off costly facilities and outrageous salaries to athletic personnel and a revenue stream is more important than education. With some of the conference realignment a student athlete will fly across the country regularly to play a game plus other downsides to their education. Believe it or not some kids are still interested in getting a degree rather then a temporary stopping off prior to a pro contract.

....and they will be able to get that education. With all the technological advances, a student does not have to be in the classroom to cover the material. Most all assignments are online. Pen, Paper, and turning assignments into a classroom are a thing of the past. I predict a significant measure of students will choose a form of hybrid education to save themselves of housing and other expenses as we move forward.

No.

A board member at Oregon took his zoom call to vote on Big 10 while actively playing golf.

Your point is well taken but some online classes are a joke and too easy for an athletic department ”tutor” to complete for the athlete.

The only real student athletes are in the non-revenue sports. The non-revenue sports were treated with less than total disregard in the realignment decisions. They were treated, frankly, as if they do not even exist. And that may ultimately be the fate for some of them.
