...is a little chilly? I can't really cite any one thing. They don't seem to talk very much. Mullen will gush over Tebow given the opportunity, but not over Meyer.

Meyer seems like a jackass, but he's never really said much about Mullen other than, "If he has the players he will be fine, if not, he will struggle."

their relationship has turned into what it should be. They went up the ranks together, but now they are both head coaches for opposing teams in the same conference. It seems like there is mutual respect, but now they have to game plan for each other.

God complex and if you are not with him you are against him. It is just their nature. Although, I do not think that he would have coached the National Championship game if it was that bad between the two. He very well could have said see yah good luck in Starkville. On Tebow, it was like he was his little brother or nephew kind of relationship. It seems he had a relationship off the field with his players. They hugh out off the field at Mullen's house. If Mullen can balance the friendship and coach relationship here at MSU it would be very helpful. We need kids that want to come and play for Mullen and for MSU. We do not have the "wow effect" like some others have. It does not matter if Saban is an *******, the players want to win and play at Alabama.

It would be a mistake for either of them to "talk up" the other. Imagine what a recruit that both coaches were on would think if Mullen was out gushing about how great a coach Urban isand talking about Urban "teaching him everything he knows," etc...

Im gonna say Meyer is a little shocked that Mullen got a Head Coaching position in the SEC to face him. He would probably be a little more at ease if Mullen had went to another conference but to be in the same one??? Meyer is probably a little scared of what all Mullen will know when that battle game comes up which is this weekend. Meyer (I dont think) is too happy about Mullens Head Coach Position.

I think it was at Notre Dame, and Meyer said that Mullen was arrogant, know it all young guy with too much energy. However, I guess he got over that. I also remember seeing an article that had Meyer quoted as saying he would make sure Mullen gets a job that he can succeed in. Which always gave me some hope, that Meyer thought you could win at MSU.

Meyer wanted Mullen in a job where he could succeed. It makes Urban more god like. You know, the talk of Mullen is a disciple of Meyer sort of thing when he succeeds. I don't believe Meyer thought Mullen should take the MSU job b/c he doesn't think Mullen can succeed at State. He thought Mullen should have waited for a better gig. On top of that, it is like someone else said, Meyer is all about Meyer.

"Do you think Mullen would throw the game, cause he loves Tebow and all."

"Do you think Mullen and Meyer aren't BFFs anymore?"

WTF?

to be giving compliements to each other through the media when they play each other every year. Its not really that big a deal for Mullen to compliment Tebow because he is gone after this year.

...then proceeded to tell me that they didn't really want him anyway.

I think "Alabama *******" has rubbed off on him.

I really didn't think Bumphis would have been that big of an impact player at UF. However after having watched what he has done to date I can see where UF would be pissed that they didn't get him.

At the Ag building in Jackson, when I was congratulating the Ninja, he said something to the effect that all communications during the coaching search were to be strictly confidential. He felt that Urban leaked some info about MSU's interest in Mullen to sabotage his candidacy, so that Mullen would not be considered for MSU.

Don't know why, whether Meyer (sp?) thought Mullen wouldn't be able to succeed here, or whether he just didn't want to face Mullen in-conference, or what, but the Ninja definitely gave me some vibes that Urban wasn't real happy about Mullen taking the MSU job. And these recent articles seem to confirm it in some respect, what with them not talking since the preseason or whatever.

I mean, think about it. They've worked together for what, 10 years? Been at 3 separate schools together, and not so much as a "WTF are we doing wrong" phone call after the Auburn game? Crazy Eddie Orgeron does not understand this lack of communication with the former boss!!!

....what does Urban want? Hey, I'll leave this kid alone because I was working for you when I first contacted him? That's BS. Urban has to know that Dan is going to go after Chad, and if he holds that against him, then the guy is psycho.

...I get the feeling that Urban felt like Dan couldn't win at MSU, what with the "If he has good players, he'll win, and if he doesn't, he won't do well" and the comment about his ability to recruit at State. It's very likely that Dan left without Urban's blessing. I'm sure Urban didn't want his OC to go during prep time for the national championship game, much less to a school in the same conference.
