Does anybody know how are our baseball players are doing this summer in leagues?

Gene usually posts some stats but he hasn't done that this summer.

And I have to give BDJ big time kudos on their improved baseball coverage. They are kicking ***. Gene still hasn't even called Will Cox yet, and Cox is probably the most talked about recruit in the state right now.

Jarrod Parks just started playing, and that's a good sign. Cody Freeman has looked good this summer- he is hitting over .300, and Nick Vickerson was hitting in the .290's.

Ryan Collins has struggled- he was hitting .235.

Chad Girodo has been up and down- he started out at 2-0, but is now 2-2.

Devin Jones is pitching in the Cape Cod League and he has an ERA of 4.15. He has started a couple of games and came in relief once or twice.

Wes Thigpen is in Alaska and I think he was doing OK, but not really earth-shattering either.

Caleb Reed has been pitching well in California.

Chris Stratton is supposed to pitch in the Cotton States League and Nick Routt may make a start or two late in the summer in that league.

and it might not be much, but Butch Thompson is from Amory, as is Cox. I think we have a good chance at him. He even mentioned that Butch being from his hometown was a big plus.

I think that we have a good chance at getting him to- again after reading the BDJ article.

Before, I thought it was 50/50, but now I think it's 65/35.

If we land him, we're going to have to thank Butch for that. I think Cox is another weekend type starter. He may be a back of the rotation guy with Fitts and Lindgren, and maybe Stratton in a few years.

His Dad is an Ole Miss fan, but his Mom is a State fan.

That Cox dude is not the most overpowering guy in the world, but he is a competitor and a workhorse who will eat innings. I'd take a guy like that any day.
