Does anybody really believe Auburn paid Cam Newton?

If you step away from the koolaid and the pure unadulterated hate that college football fanaticism inspires, it appears that Kenny Rogers swooped in and spied a father that could possibly be on the take. He found himself a way to make a quick buck and Cecil was just the guy to go along with the plan. Then we blew the whistle. When Cam said the money was just too much, he meant there was too much of a slimy situation to go to MSU. This is what the evidenced points to, and it's just a big kick in the nuts for us.

Now, I'd love to find out later that Cecil found a better deal. But it just doesn't appear that way. Too many black helicopters down that path with no evidence to support it.

If nobody had ever heard of Cam Newton and you ask me if "_____" who played for Auburn was getting paid, I'd say "probably".

You have a hard time believing an SEC QB is getting paid? Even after it's proven his dad was trying to get paid?

Oooookaaay.

I want Auburn to burn worse than anybody. I hate them. I hate the Newtons. But what sucks the MOST out of all this is that this dude appeared to choose Auburn because we messed up.

Wait - your right. He went to Auburn because they are really that much better and he just took a scholarship.

If I were an Auburn fan, I'd be enjoying this season, but be very concerned about the future consequences.

No way Cecil offered money to Auburn, only to MSU because we would have been renting the mule. Auburn and Cam are just too pure to be involved in any way. And Auburn pay players? Come on, that's so last year. They have an NCAA investigator now at their school. They will never ever evuh pay any players.

yeah we messed up, all this was out on dec31st, 2009 ...but the ncaa just waited 10 months to investigate it...

there was no to much money, when we told them we wasn't paying.

Cam or Cecil pushed his signing back 3 times in 2 weeks, but you are right they just had cold feet while choosing Auburn ... they didn't even know they were visiting Auburn until the 11th hour when Cecil couldn't even go

This won't go down before Jan 10th, and Auburn knows it ...but it will go down.

Several of those players were the top talent in other states and strong leans to their instate schools. Suddenly, like Cam Newton, they chose Auburn out of the blue.

If your theory is true, I would have expected Cam to have gone to a school that had been recruiting him for a longer period of time - like Kansas State, Oklahoma, or even Tennessee.

Auburn swooping in at the last second screams that they were the ones that took the bait. I just can't believe that Cecil randomly selected Auburn to be the benefactor of Cam's services for free after it is known that he was soliciting MSU.

It's a fact, $200K. The problem is that there is no way to link the money to Cam. If his trucking business just happens to expand and receive more than the customary amount for hauls, what's wrong with that. If one or more of his churches receives a large cash donation, what's wrong with that? The money will be impossible to trace if they were smart.

I know MSU did everything right. It's just an MState thing to do to have our own screw us over. And yes, it appears Rogers and Cecil screwed us over. Rogers didn't plan on it, he thought we were getting a good player. Cecil didn't give a **** either way.

bigger fan support, bigger stage, better supporting cast. It was a no lose for them. Either get paid and go to state, or fall back on the next option, which may better a better option in the end.

Robertson said himself that he started getting worried that we might not get him when Auburn came into the picture.

the scant possibility that AU didnt pay. It makes perfect sense that they did, but all ive seen is smoke, smoke, smoke. No fire.

If the FBI doesnt have any proof after the Mcgregor trial is over, I'll officially quit crossing my fingers.

If the FBIcan't find it, it might as wellnever havehappened.

or if the hard proof is never found it doesn't prove he didn't get paid it just proves there is no easy money trail to follow. Would certainly be hard to ever convince me that significant money didn't change hands even if through Cecil's business but that doesn't mean the NCAA can prove it or if they even really want to prove it.

Cam knew it and so did his mother. That is my opinion. Now, Cecil has admitted to "shopping" his son and Auburn took "swift" action by declaring Cam ineligible only to have the NCAA to declare him eligible the within the next 48 hours. How convenient. And Auburn takes another really drastic (sarcasm) action against the Newtons by limiting the association of Cecil with its athletic program. Supposedly he could not go to the SEC Championship game. Does anyone here believe Cam's mom didn't know? She was at the game supporting her son while the bad guy has to stay home. Wow, Auburn can really dish out the punishment can't it? My subject line says "Auburn", meaning it depends on what the definition of Auburn is. Did Auburn send a check to Cecil on an Auburn bank account? No. Did the president of Auburn U sign any check to Cecil? No. So, no official rep of Auburn made any payment to anybody. Did Auburn know what was going on with Cecil? I doubt it. But it doesn't matter. Why did Cecil start out by lying and denying? Then why did he admit what he had been lying about all along? That doesn't bode well for his reputation regardless of KennyRogers'. His own son does not exactly have a sterling reputation either. What matters is that Cecil shopped his son to MSU (a fact he now has admitted). MSU said no thanks. So, another school (which had not even been recruiting another QB) lands him a month later. This has nothing to do with drinking kool aid. If you actually believe that K Rogers "preyed" on the "weakness" of Cecil Newton then maybe it does have something to do with drinking kool aid. It is all circumstantial for now but later will probably become fact that some really underhanded things took place by the Newtons and Auburn supporters.

Auburn has a MASSIVE inferiority complex towards Bammer. After Bama's NC season last year, two regular seasons undefeated, and Nick Saban pretty much the best coach in college football, Auburn was desperate. They were forced to hire a 5-19 coach from Iowa State, and they were lucky to win six games with Tommy Tuberville's talent.

So, yes, they DID pay for Cecil. All unsubstantiated reports from unreliable sources point out that Cecil's trucking business really took off after Cam signed, what with new routes all over East Alabama and West Georgia. And since Cam's a preacher's kid, he knows how to be all holified in public while raising hell in private.

yeah i mean if there is substantial evidence that cecil's business and church benefited in an oddly positive manner after the recruiting process is over it is a good indicator that money was exchanged... I personally just don't really know if Cam actually said "the money was too much" referring to why he was going to auburn... I know it has been reported but who is the source that said this? It could have just been a case where Cecil knew that Cam wanted to come to State so he figured he might as well ask State for some money... when we declined and got offended.. maybe Cecil got scared and sent him to Auburn instead

and I don't think this point gets brought up enough by the people reporting on the situation. It wasn't like we and Auburn were recruiting against each other for him and then he chose Auburn. Auburn wasn't even mentioned as a option for him until the last few weeks before signing day. He's ringing a cowbell at the Egg Bowl, and everyone on the planet thinks he's going to MSU, including him. Then, out of nowhere, he takes one visit to Auburn right at the end of the recruiting period, pushes back his announcement date a couple of times, and "It's Auburn". How could you not think that something shady happened to change his mind?

I know this is a completely different situation--and I know we are the SEC'sproverbial red-headed stepchild--but look at Sydney. The NCAA didn't have one shred of evidence against his family. Look where that took us. Cecil Newton most likely took the money, and they can stillnail him witha crime.plain and simple.

I agree that it is highly unlikely that Auburn paid the Newton's because:<div>
</div><div>1) Bobby Lowder being on the Board of Trustees at Auburn is a good thing. He is a great man.</div><div>
</div><div>2) Anybody who says differently is a hater</div><div>
</div><div>3) The fact of Colonial Bank being taken over and shut down due to fraud is merely a coincidence, and the fact that CEO Bobby Lowder resigned just before it went under, again, another coincidence</div><div>
</div><div>4) Milton McGregor is just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and has no ties whatsoever to Auburn. His race track and casino hotel were shut down just out of a coincidence as the FBI swooped in like the Auburn eagle on Saturday gamedays. And the lobbyist he allegedly paid, Robert Geddie, who also represents the Auburn Foundation, again just a coincidence</div><div>
</div><div>5) The fact that FBI is investigating 4 Alabama state senators, and wiretapped their lines, has nothing to do with anything, including Auburn and Geddie the lobbyist and Cecil Newton and Milton McGregor. Nothing at all.</div><div>
</div><div>6) Tommy Bowden. Eric Ramsey. Liars. Both of them.</div><div>
</div><div>7) Cecil Newton's church and business flourished by the grace of God, not by Auburn donations. Anyone who says anything different is a liar.</div><div>
</div><div>Yep, in the midst of all of this, it makes perfect sense that Auburn is a model university with outstanding alumni and booster associations.</div><div>
