Does anyone consider Vandy an automatic victory in 2014?

I was reading a recent article on Vandy's improvement in recent years as the season progressed. Article here.

Then came to mind the argument about State's auspicious 10-win season in 2014. State has faltered down the stretch in recent years.

What say ye? Wrap it?

Depends on who the coach is. Got to believe Franklin will be gone, who do they hire?

Even when Vandy is good - State beats them. Of course, we have yet to play Franklin.

For a moment there, I thought you we're talking about MSU and jumping on the Hud-train. Tout. Tout.**

Can't see Franklin leaving unless it's the caliber school of USCw or UF.

Mullen to Vandy**

i don't think you can necessarily talk about one team getting better down the stretch and one faltering when these were the final games last year

Vandy - Massachusetts, @Kentucky, @OM, Tenn, @ Wake
MSU - @bama, TAMU, @LSU, Arky, @OM

theres no real logic into saying one gets better as the season wore on and one faltered when the scheduling plays the biggest part of this.

doesn't matter when you get the wins

There's no telling how it will shake out once coaching moves are made. Texas still may pull the trigger. If Florida does the same that's three major programs looking for new coaches. Say Sumlin goes to USCw, A & M may look Franklins way. But like the others said if he is still there I think it will be a good game and more difficult to win although I still think we will.

Exactly. When you hear that one team is hot or another is slumping, usually it has more to do with their schedules than one being hot and the other cold.

I think Vandy may be better than many think. True, they started off 2-3 with losses to OM, USCe and what at the time everyone thought was SEC cellar dweller Missou. Now its obvious that Missouri is no joke, and Vandy has put up wins against Georgia and Florida (both down this year), but their 4th loss was ATM. Losses to OM, USCe, ATM and Missouri doesn't necessarily make a team awful. I'm glad it's in Starkville.

If Franklin leaves, Hud to Vanderbilt**

Of course not.

We currently have no automatic victories against BCS teams. We almost lost to Kentucky at home this year, the worst team in the SEC.

Although I'm not counting it a win

I'd rather play Vandy than Georgia, USC, Mizzou, Tennessee, or Florida (under whichever non-Muschamp coach they end up with)

My biggest concern is the schedule in context. State plays @Bama the week before. Bama will be a physical game. It will be a highly emotional game. Plus, there's nobody who sets the blueprint for how to expose a team like Nick Saban.

Now to Vandy. Who did Vandy schedule to play the week before the State game? That's right... NOBODY. So, if Franklin is still the coach, he has two weeks to prepare for this game. He used both his bye weeks this year to beat Georgia and Florida. Franklin is the master of 2nd half adjustments and now he has Saban's blueprint to work with in the first half. Next year will be Vandy's most talented team it's ever had. Not reassuring.
