Does anyone else feel nervous about Mullen possibly still being a UF candidate?

it does kinda seem like Mullen has been sitting on his *** lately as far as recruiting and a dc search. Has he even interviewd anyone besides martinez, who would be with him at florida now if he jumped?

he needs to get his **** together and his coaches and start knocking some doors down recruitng wise and get a damn dc in here

perhaps the whole "read more, post less" thing should be your motto.

so I pointed out it was a dead period.

How hard is that to understand? Apparently as hard as learning to reply properly and learning when you can use "ku".

my point.....was based on this class as a whole. I think Mullen is kick *** for the program, but he has to start pulling some guys, this class is mediocre. we ***** slapped !@$%, but yet since that game they have pulled better recruits. secondly, if my name was plastered all over tv about possibly heading to another program, and i have no dc...i think i might hold on on the vacation til i had a man in place

you'd wait until everything at your job was squared away and perfect before spending some time with your family? I feel for them.

I also think I'm going to start banning when I see the obvious Ole Miss reference blurred out. Really annoying. January is looking like a bumper crop.

having a dc in place is a pretty important thing heading down the home stretch in recruiting, now, if Mullen has his guy and he is coaching in a bowl, then im wrong, but if he comes out and says joe blow from western michigan is the new dc, then yeah, she should hold off on the vaca-......i know i cant take off to the bahamas or hawai at my job in the middle of a very important project

Coaches are allowed one call per week during the dead period, but trust me, it's not like there isn't more recruting going on. After Meyer resigned coaches were all over their recruits, their best recruit switched, and an article today said Meyer called him repeatedly to try and get him to reconsider.
And Meyer certainly hasn't looked to be in a hurry to replace Bedford, Strong, or Gonzales, so maybe he is leaving. Most seem to think he won't coach again, so this could get interesting again

I doubt mullen is leaving, I saw him in the union taking pictures with the egg after we beat ole miss, he was really happy, showed great face with the students. He was way excited to get this job, Mullen himself said on ESPN that he was a bulldog, not to mention the speech he gave after the egg bowl. Mullen is gonna be a bulldog next season.

Think about it. Hypothetically, Florida comes calling. He already has great ties in Florida, friends in Florida, knows the players, knows the offense like the back of his hand, inherits arguably the best talent in college football, inherits a coaching position in a gold mine for recruiting, still has sec competition, and most of all is offered an amount of money we could only dream of matching...hypothetically. 1. I say hypothetically because I do not see Florida offering an unproven head coach, no matter previous ties. I believe they go after Stoops, who has been quoted saying he wants to coach in the SEC someday, and wouldn't this be an ideal time for him to leave. 2. I do not think we hae to worry about Mullen because Meyer will be back next fall, no doubt. He is too arrogant and cocky to let someone else take over a program he rebuilt. This whole situation is very weird. The timing of it all and the end result baffle me of why the situation ever occurred. And lastly, Dan Mullen can say all he wants about staying a bulldog, but if he saw the figures they were offering him, at the very least he would think twice.

I think coach Mullen is awesome, and I hope he is here for at least a few more years, but I think he still needs to prove some things before someone like Florida has him at #2 behind Bob Stoops on their list. Even with his connections, I think they would look at a few more people before talking with Mullen. Everyone can tell he did a lot with a little this year, but the fact of the matter is he hasn't done anything concrete as a head coach yet besides win the egg bowl. I know we should have a better record but one of those games was lost on coaching in my opinion. Last year's class was mostly Croom's, and although Mullen did cap it off nicely, he hasn't done a whole lot on the recruiting scene his first full year doing it as a head coach. And until his record as a head coach is above .500 he is not what you would call a winner, yet, and yes I know what Chizik's record was before he came to Auburn. Maybe this is just wishful thinking by me because I want Mullen to be here and lead us to victory in at least one bowl game. I hope the people that matter in this situation think the same thing. Just remember I said I think he needs to prove himself first, which means he is just inexperienced so don't think I'm bashing Mullen, I'm just naming the things I hope Florida thinks about when they think Dan Mullen.

I'm not worried at all about when we will have a DC. Dan will probably get one in the next two weeks or so. If it's February and we still don't have one, then I would get worried. We still have the bowls going on, and why rush out and name a DC when some of the pool is not yet available?

And as far as the vacation, it's a dead period, we do have assistants that are supposed to be recruiting, and their are a lot of coaches on vacation this week at their bowl site. I'm thinking that Dan wants to spend his vacation at one next year to.

yea i see what your sayin pgddawg but i dont see mullen as the kind of guy to just up and leave after all the work he has done here. Starkville is insane for dan mullen, if he goes to florida, its gonna be, "ok mullen, dont screw this up" if he stays, hes still a God. im 100% positive he will be in maroon next fall.

I think you have to take into account that during the best of times in Florida's history the insane expectations and lack of any sort of privacy or life is killing an otherwise healthy man. I realize that Mullen would take it if offered but I still have to wonder what makes these "elite" jobs so great? If you could make the same money at Cincinnati where life would be good, the schedule easy, and you live somewhere they treat you like a god for stringing together some bowl wins why would you want to go to Notre Dame where they punch your QB in the face and the administration would rather pay off some 7 years of contract than go to a bowl game?

I just think there is a reason Petersen is staying at Boise.

things in their proper perspective. Unfortunately, some coaches' egos sometimes get in the way of that, and the lure of dollars also matters. I don't know Dan Mullen, and don't know how he thinks about those kinds of things. He's obviously a driven individual and has a great desire to succeed. It all depends on what his definition of success is. All he has to do is look at some corch like Meyer, who is now realizing that if you don't have your life's priorites straight, you can end up in a mess.

is they are going to their second straight Cotton Bowl, while we are sitting at home for the second straight season. Now, I don't blame Mullen for that, but the fact is going to bowl games makes recruiting much easier. This is one major reason why our scheduling was done so poorly by Mr. Templeton. Going to a bowl game is more important to recruiting than playing big time OOC games. When we went to a bowl game in 2007, even that incompetent recruiter Croom had success recruiting. If we go bowling next year you will start seeing recruiting take a turn for the better.

Secondly, I love how people hold coaches to things they wouldn't do themselves. Is the guy never supposed to take a vacation? Is his family always supposed to play second fiddle? Have you ever heard the saying, "if Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy?"

You can't at MSU (or at UM either for you Rebel lurkers who may think you're somehow better than us). It's that simple. If Florida ever offers Mullen the job, he'd leave in a second. That's not saying he doesn't love it here (I really don't know either way, but I get the impression he's happy), that's just reality.

It would actually be far more impressive to win the west or the SEC at State. But I know that coaches want national titles.

..there're several in our conference that may be opening up in the next year or two if things don't change, and I believe that he would get a hard look from one or two, for sure.

Meyer will need to do more than play Rockey Felker at Florida. He'll need to be a head coach at a slower moving place with lower expectations.

Yes, Urban Meyer should coach at Mississippi State.

I love my job. It is only a 45 minute drive from home. My parents are 3 hours away....close enough if I need them and not so close that they can get on my nerves. My boss is the best I have ever had and a close personal friend. I have assembled a great group of employees, whom I love and respect. I have the freedom to take off when needed and leave early at times. The work I do with my patients is fulfilling and I feel like I make a difference.......BLAH....BLAH....BLAH. All that being said, let the phone ring right now and it be the New Orleans Saints medical staff saying they need a radiology director to coordinate team diagnostic studies and they will triple my salary....I am outta here and I'll drop you an email once in a while. Point being, no matter how satisfied or committed one is to their current job or situation, most people have that dream job out there. I don't think Florida wants Mullen (yet), but I am not delusional enough to think that we would be his preference over them. If they call, he'll go.....and maybe drop us an email once in a while.

is not tied to the south geographically by any stretch. I would say that he will be a viable candidate for any more prestigeous job anywhere in the country if it's attractive enough for him.
