Does anyone else think that Slive is not particularly thrilled with this?

Pac10 Deal

As I'm sure most of you are aware by now, the Pac10 just signed the largest TV deal in college sports with FOX/ESPN a few days ago. On one hand, contracts have been signed so the SEC has no one to blame but itself for not demanding more money. However, how does a conference with the wild popularity of the SEC which happens to be coming off of 4 straight BCS titles not have the richest TV deal with ESPN? I'm not sure how the Big10 network money plays into this but per the article, the SEC will now be 3rd in terms of annual payout to the Pac10 and Big10.

The SEC is going to wind up being very sorry they signed 15-year deals. We've been the richest conference for a few years, but in 10 years our media contracts are going to be way behind everybody else's.

You're exactly right Pat. There was nothing wrong with the amount of per season money we negotiated in our last deal, but the deal was for way way too long of a period. 15 years is a financial lifetime.

Both ESPN and the SEC saw what was coming with the economy and tried to get the best deal they could. We wanted the money, they wanted the term. As the economy has improved, these other conferences have been able to improve their standings in negotiations, and since the SEC went first, they have a precedent.

1.We are guarantee money for 15 years. The othersare not and the power that be might negotiate them down when the contract is overif the ratings are down and they don't have any NC.
2. The SEC has made so much money off the BCS the past five years and it will keep on getting that money, it will not make that big of a different and the way the SEC shares money among them selves helps alot.
3. When the 15 years are up and the SEC renegotiates the contract they will be able to negotiate, what the TV networksare paying otherconferences, the SEC can demand more money. Keep on winning NC and people all over the country will join the band wagon. I was in Orlando two months ago and I have never seen as much Auburn gear in one place out side Auburn Stadium. It means a lot and the SEC will be able to hold that over their heads.

Thee is always a up side. You just got to be positive sometimes and find what is good in a situation.

if the SEC did not include a clause in their contract that allowed them to renegotiate if another conference got a better deal. Those type of clauses are very common.

</div><div>6 of the top 10 rated games in 2010 were SEC games. SEC football gets good ratings. It's what you watch when your team isn't playing. There is one game on that list featuring Pac-10 teams, and it's number 9 at that. Pac-10 teams might have wealthier alums, but they don't give a **** about football. Harvard and Yale don't have big TV contracts either. Slive should be mad as hell.</div> </div>

that has the clause in his contract that says something like if he wins a national championship he automatically gets a bump in salary to make him the highest paid coach?

the SEC should work a clause like that in. Of course you think the refs made bad calls now, couldn't imagine it then.
