Doing some quick Google Earth measuring, I find it's 300 ft from front row seat on 50yd line on one side to the other. It looks like it's 140 ft from the front row East side to the middle of the field and 160 ft the other way. Shift it 10 ft and it's 150/150.

Is it at least off-center so that the home sideline is the larger sideline? If I recall, I think that's the way it is as of now, but I think you've had your team on the small sideline before too. Am I right about that?

pick up on side of the stadium, move it closer to the field, then make the stands steeper. Our stands are a mile away from the field compared to most stadiums.

but I guess the only option would be to dig up the field and lower it, so you could expand the grandstands down, and yes your seats are far away from the field. It's the anti-Oklahoma State.

In fact, I just looked up Oklahoma State's stadium history, and they did lower their field about 12 feet in 1971, adding about 20 rows of seats, so it can be done. I'm sure that's not the only example.

It's about 300 feet from front row to front row, which is on par with Auburn (about 320, hard to tell) and Alabama (also 300). A huge difference is the dead space at the front of the west side and how much the stands curve, making the center part of the stadium seem really far apart.<div>
</div><div>We also lack a significant endzone structure, which makes things seem far apart, though Moo Tube made things feel a little closer.</div>

Bring the fans closer, add seats. I'm sure its not cheap, but it can't cost a fortune either.

The SEZ would have to be made into a bit of a hill, but that would also be a nice touch. Kinda like Clempson. I wouldn't think it would be this drastic...

andthe hill on one side with theaddition on the other. It would make DWS much much much louder.

Well, to be fair, those are much larger stadiums, but the question is with the slope of the stands. First row isn't nearly as important as the middle row.

I was just about to say, maybe we could dig up the bones and relocate them.

Yes, during Felkers last few years, our sideline was the eastside. I believe this was done to keep from splitting/moving our student section. The SEC passed a rule that students can't sit directly behind the visitors around that time.

Then, I think when Jackie started coaching, we moved our bench back to the west and split the students sections into north and south sections on the east. Then (&currently) we put the student section back to the north and removed the first ten or so rows from them to accommodate the rule.

I have no Idea if the field has always been offset. But I had tickets on the east back in the 80s and 90s and always thought the field seemed closer than on the west.

It is almost always cheaper to dig lower than it is to build higher...

Michigan Stadium is almost totally located under "ground level". They were likely one of the first to ever "lower the field".

Ohio State added seats by digging down....about 10 years ago I think. I am sure you guys recall the track around their field back in the day.
