Our Batting Avg is higher and our ERA is lower. Our fielding percentage is down and I've got no answer for that. Our fielding is pathetic.
But I can't help but wonder if you watched the games in Polk's last year. We got beat 20-5 by Middle Tennessee State. 20-5. To F$*$ckin Middle Tennessee State. Vandy out scored us 31-8 on Friday and Saturday before we made it competitive on Sunday. North Florida put up 28 runs in 2 games. Air Force hadn't won a series in like 75 years until they played us. We split with Ark-LR and I was surprised we did that well. Interestingly enough, we swept Austin Peay, who swept us at the end of 2007, which we rebounded from in the form of a CWS appearance. I remember our team celebrating by playing in the god damn water puddles in center field after we won a series against Tennessee.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not pleased with where we are. But 2008 was awful and we are better now than we were then. We're competitive now (which isn't good enough for me), we weren't then.

I absolutely think we would've been better w/ Polk the last two years. He was starting all these same guys and it was pretty much most of their first years starting, OF COURSE they're hitting a little better in their 3rd and 4th years starting, anyone is going to improve a little after getting that much experience, you guys act like the only reason we're hitting a little better is b/c of Cohen.
Secondly, you guys are comparing the last two years to the worst year in Polk's history. We were coming off of a freaking CWS and replacing a lot of guys that year, we can't compare every one of Cohen's years forever to Polk's worst. You guys really think Polk would've had three straight years as bad as his worst ever? Nevermind, I'm sure you do.

We're in most games now instead of being completely blown out. And we beat most of the ****** teams, prior to the pansies quitting on Cohen. If it were up to me, any player not on board with Cohen at the end of this season would be cut. Time to nuke the roster and bring in guys who want to bust their *** to win, regardless of who the coach is.

That said, we would still be in a vicious cycle of recruiting out of the camp in all likelihood, and I am not sure how much freedom Raffo would have had to do his thing. I think MSU baseball would continue to sink down the drain of disrepair.
At least now it looks like we're having some good recruiting classes and it looks like we're getting some guys that fit Cohen's style better. The bottom line is the only way out of this mess is to bring in better players period. If Polk had stayed, I doubt we would have classes like that. We would also have the "that's baseball" attitude permeating throughout MSU, and someone at some point would have to change that before it got better, and it would not be pretty. A 40th ranked recruiting class is not going to get it done in the SEC.
Here's the thing- if we had kept Polk I wouldn't be surprised at all if we would still be having a losing season and on top of that we would be even further down in the pit. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me to keep a guy around so that we could maybe have a 28-28 season- and even that is stretching it- this season when we could get rid of the old regime, and go through some pains with a 20 win season, but then be good in a couple of years and then probably really good in three. Especially since we would have to go through this sooner than later anyway.

How does that effect things? We had Pigott, Crosswhite, Weatherford, and Lalor on that 2008 staff. That's 4 veteran pitchers including a solid pro prospect. Our only veteran this year is Whitney. I factor things like this in, you may not.
I'm not arguing that we are a good baseball team or that I'm pleased with the progress we've made. I'm simply stating that we are better now than in 2008. I have no idea how much baseball you watched in 2008, but if you watched any, you'd see progress. The problem is that we haven't made enough.
I remember getting shelled by North Florida of all teams, 4 errors on one play against Vandy, Baylor making us look like a little league team, having to come back to even up the series with Ark-LR, Bama scoring 3 touchdowns.... on Friday night, Blake Dean hitting a ball that still hasn't landed, and team after team scoring double digit runs.
That 2008 team quit and it was obvious to anyone that followed them. We're better now than we were then. How much better is up for discussion. I'm not a "Cohen is God" type person and I'm not happy with Cohen's progress to this point, but I watched us play then and I watch us play now. We're better now. We still <17>in' suck, but we're better.
