Does anyone think the USA has a real shot at making the Semi's ?

I personally do. Not saying we will, but in my opinion we have caught a pretty good draw here (USA, Ghana, S. Korea, Uruguay). If we had finished 2nd in the group and were in the bracket with Germany, Mexico, and Argentina we would be toast. Thoughts?

Crowd should be really behind Ghana, they're carrying the African torch.

After that, probably Uruguay. Forlan and Suarez would be really excited to play against our back line. That game yesterday was the only WC clean sheet the US has ever had (and that was against a completely punchless team). We might have to score 3 goals to beat them. Possible but unlikely.

Good scorers that could take advantage of our back line, and their defense is outstanding. I could see them really bottling up Altidore and (insert other striker). We'd need a LOT of help forward from Dempsey, Edu, Donovan, and Bradley, which would open up the midfield for a counter attack with numbers for them. I think we'd need a clean sheet to beat them.

Of course, Ghana is a good team, so it's gonna be tough to even make the quarters. However, it looks like we match up pretty well with them, so the opportunities will be there. I'd definitely rather have Ghana than Germany.

We beat Mexico 2-0 in 2002
We beat England 1-0 in 1950

destroyed Egypt, beat down Spain, and had Brazil on the ropes.

You'd better believe we can beat Ghana and Uruguay.

Let's keep in perspective that we haven't lost a match and should really be 2-0-1 with 2 more goals scored. We've had excellent scoring opportunities in every game so far.

It's just that Ghana, South Korea, and Uruguay also could beat us. I just happen to be most concerned about Uruguay, if that's the way it plays out. They are playing extremely well, especially on defense.

for the first time in awhile we have been playing better offensively than defensively. against our three possible opponents the one that can nullify that the most is uruguay. we have a great shot of beating a young, ghana team that, while very athletic, lacks some organization, which bodes well for our counterstriking ability. Howard should play well and i think we win 2-1. after that i think south korea is very similar to us (much more so than ghana) and uruguay would be favored over us bc of the level of organized defense they play. we can shut down a strong striker or two (i.e. rooney in game #1) but can we get through their back 4 or 5?

bottom line: this is our best shot to make the semis so far and it may be our best shot ever so we need to take advantage of it. if we get there we will probably play spain, brazil or the dutch. all of whom we have played well against in the last year so we shouldn't be afraid of them. could we be this WC's Butler?

but no, we're not the favorites. Most likely to progress I'd say would be Uruguay, then Ghana, then us, with South Korea last. With that said, there is not a big gap between Uruguay and South Korea and I think Ghana/USA is almost 50/50. Any of the 4 have a legit shot at making the semis.
