Does Beamer trust himself to hire new OC?

The concerning thing about his 3 previous OC hires is not the hires themselves, though they were bad. It's that with each one, he insisted that each one was also his very top choice. I could maybe understand if you land one one of those guys out of duress. Satterfiled and Shula were abject disasters. Loggains was more of a mixed bag.

If I'm Beamer, do I question my ability even evaluate and assess OC talent? Can he hire a search firm or get some outside adviser?

I would assume he knows this is the last chance he'll have to get an OC hire right. I just don't know what the odds are that he can do it. I don't want some shi**y choice again that leave us all scratching our heads. Even if it doesn't work out I want an OC hire that makes sense on paper. He's got to get away from this mindset of going against the grain with his hiring choices.

His comments about each hire being his "top choice" could have been token coachspeak. At least I hope so.

I hold out hope he'll make a better hire this time, but if those 3 were his top choices at the time, I have zero faith on his judgement.

I’m more comfortable that we have a new AD that may provide more direction in the process

Beamer has 100% trust in Beamer. That's his #1 issue. He needs outside help with this hire. I know he's not an offensive expert but my first call would be Nick Saban. I would want his input / suggestion on the next hire. I think Nick would take his call.

Yes he trust himself, but he shouldn't. In all seriousness he should seek Saban as a consultant to tell him what to do.

He's fos saying all 3 of those were his first choices. Satterfield wasn't, otherwise he would have never retained Bobo. If the other two were, then again, he should not trust himself to hire another one.

Wild. You got this in before my post now mine is just redundant.

And he was bragging that his phone was ringing off the hook with people wanting the OC job
I bet it was last year. After the finish we had and the potential the entire world saw in Sellers? He had his pick. And he hired an NFL retread with a popular name. Now we have the worst P4 offense and pretty darn close to the worst in college football.

But... could you imagine if he hired someone else who turned out to be even half as bad as Shula while we still had Shula on staff? This board would have blown up worse than it is now.

He said similar when putting together his first staff here. Especially when people were ge a little squirrely that is seemed to be taking so long yo put the staff together. Claimed he could have already had it all filled in due to interest but wanted to ensure he got the right people. The second part of that statement is the right approach, problem is the first part is bs.

Maybe he's expecting Sellers to stay and he can use him as a drawing card for a good OC?

I heard Beamer retained Ray Tanner as a consultant.
