All the rah rah speeches and practice reports reminded me of the worst SEC coach ever to play the game, but I have to say that I am impressed with what Mullen has been able to accomplish with your team. I didn't think they were exactly alike, but I did think that there were some similarities. However, several things are becoming clear to me.
He is creating something from nothing. He's come close to beating LSU and Florida with Tyson Lee and Relf. There are offensive coordinators who wake up in a cold sweat after having nightmares developing a gameplan around those two at quarterback.
Florida's offense looks horrible without him. Tebow and the gang simply are not the number 1 team in the nation. If you take away the bad calls they could have two losses to MSU and Arkansas right now. That would push them out of the top 15 and rightfully so. The only major difference (besides Percy Harvin) is that Dan Mullen is not calling the plays.
There better be some black helicopters somewhere. The MSU record might look a little different if it weren't for some seriously bad play calling. I have no idea why your team keeps getting blatantly screwed on national television by the officials, but something has to be going on. Nobody ever leaves a game saying, "Man, we lost that game, but I have to say that there was some damn good officiating tonight." However, State has gotten the raw end of the deal on several occasions. If not for those you may have a win or two more under your belt.
In conclusion, Mullen's pre-season antics did remind me of the O, but I am more than certain that he is a much more qualified coach. You've got a good coach on your hands, and anyone who says any different is a damn fool.
