Doesn't it feel nice to actually have a football team now?

Jackie's last years, and all of Croom's years, I just thought we were handcuffing ourselves from the start. Wasn't sure what to think about Mullen last year either, probably just gunshy. We just were never solid nor consistent in those years. I always thought we were going to lose, we never blew anybody out. We never got the best out of our teams, we left alot on the field. Not to mention our uniforms and gameday atmosphere were a complete joke. The best thing that came out of the '00 decade was a fanbase fired up about tailgating.

For the first time in awhile I feel we have a solid SEC football team. Not a champion, but not a joke. We can play with anybody. Our players will be put in a position to win. Our players look the part. Damn, how did Michael Henig ever start in the SEC? Much less start so long that he actually got lucky and beat somebody?

I mean, this is just what bottom level baseline should be. Croom took us below average, I wish other fans could see this.</p>

..before concluding we have a football team now.

This premature proclamation reeks too much of pre-2001 season hysteria.

2001 we had all the hype and none of the muscle. I don't need JR to remind you of the lollypop defensive line we had. Alot of people kinda saw that coming but turned a blind eye because we were Rose Bowl bound.

This year it's the opposite. We have some horses but not much real respect - at least to the other SEC members.

You can't tell me you didn't have wool in August 2001, or every year of the Croom era in August. I remember your wool. It's alright, because we all get it, but you're pretending like you didn't feel positive about teams in the past when you had convinced yourself you'd be bowling most of those years at this time of year.

Last week you were spouting nothing but gloom and doom about our lack of proven RB's and QB's. Now you are talking about all of the horses we have. Don't forget, when it comes to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, we are unparalleled.

I never had wool about a Croom led team. From the very beginning, I was pissed that we hired a twice fired NFL offensive coordinator (who was then simply a RB coach) who could not make his offense work with Barry F-ing Sanders. I led myself to be somewhat optimistic in year one, but never again after that, not even after the fluke bowl season that Ellis Johnson got for us.

He was always wooly every August, but he's somehow forgotten that. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with that, but he's pretending a post like this from him is different than any other year he's made posts like it.

but it's just nice to have a coach who will get the most out of us, and we have enough players to be SOLID. That's it. I don't understand why some of the other posters in this thread are mistaking my posts for wool.

****, we were a solid team last year, and were 5-7. Some people just see what they want to see.

And yes, you're right, with QB play, we can make noise. That's a big assumption for the QBs on our roster.

Are you high? Are can you not distinguish hope from wool?

Hope = I'd sure like for us to be good this year

Wool = we are going to be good this year

To the OP, don't know what its like to feel like we have a good team. We aren't there yet. But the scent coming from the kitchen sure smells good. And I'm hungry.

...gotta have solid QB play, we seem reasonably soild at the line(s), and generally better overall.
Stronger, faster, more depth.
Less learning curve to a new system.

I think our issue was at D-Linein the 2001season where we were dominated This is a direct quote from Joe Lee Dunn taken from an SI preseason write up: "Most of the guys we've got are not big enough to play and win in the SEC. I'd just play one defensive line if we started tomorrow."

We had Dorsett Davis and Conner Stephens, but not much after that. Mario Haggan in the middle and the disaster of Hollywood Wright and Banks at corners.

With the exception of Mario, Dorsett, and maybe Pig and Conner Stephens... I don't think thereare any others that would start for us this season. That 2001 D-linedoes not even compare to the guys on our current line.

Hey, we just signed 3 DLs from a JUCO in Arizona that gave up a lot of points last season. I hope that's not a bad sign. But at the time, we were coming off our most successful 4-year run in my lifetime so I just kind of shrugged it off.

That is a blatantly untrue and one of the dumbest things you've ever said. Perhaps, maybe there was a little wool in 08 which was sheared off and weaved on loom into a an off-maroon sweater in Ruston. Outside of that, I don't think much of anyone with a brain thought we were going to be worth a damn any other year that hibbity jibbity crooked lid Cr--mz was waddling the sideline. MRob did, but like I said, there is a brain pre-requisite.

first off, thread titles...

Doesn't it feel nice to actually have a football team now?VS Closer the season gets, the more wool I am shearing

Secondly:

We can play with anybody VS and I think Auburn will kill us

Third:

For the first time in awhile I feel we have a solid SEC football teamVS I'm still not sold on Chris Relf, no matter what Coach34 says. We don't have a running back right now, Elliot is timid, the rest unproven, no matter what you all say about not missing Dixon. No big receivers. AND All I remember of last year is the defense getting gashed up by Auburn AND I mean a solid SEC back. We don't have it right now. AND Tyler Russell isn't ready either - you know it, I know it, the whole fanbase knows it

im bored

The Auburn will kill us was a bit of a stretch, but that's only because we are MSU.That's the only thing that's really mutually exclusive.

what exactly does 2001 and 2010 have to do with the Croom years? So what if I had wool in 2008? Has nothing to do with now, or the wool anyone had in '01. Just another failed attempt by you to pull one over on me. I still don't think you read the post in which I replied to Ronny.
