I expect to see the DPR on Saturday and I'm glad. I can remember when the team would do it on the field before every kickoff but of course that started drawing a penalty for celebration, so it had to be moved to the sideline. The only problem with the DPR is it's such a cocky display of emotions, that you have to be winning for it to make since. Which is why it ended. Once we started getting our butts kicked every week and going 3-8 it really started looking stupid. Also it sometimes became overkill, they did it to much. I think before each half and maybe late in the game if we are winning would be plenty, but not every kickoff.

Why would Mullen have gone through the trouble to get Kenzaki Jones to practice and the spring game to teach them the DPR?

Also, the DPR ended b/c Sherrill said they could do the DPR as long as they don't allow a kickoff return for a TD. And that's exactly what happened. Then we didn't see it again until the Egg Bowl 2003 (Sherrill's last game). The whole team did the DPR on the sideline, then proceeded to get stomped in the mud in every aspect of the game.

i am a DPR fan. when we were good, it was awesome. sure, it could be overdone. but after a big score or in big games, it gets the players pumped and the crowd loud. i am glad mullen made sure to bring kenzaki back, because if the DPR is brought back, it should be done right.

Why would you do the DPR without playing the music? I would think it wouldn't look that cool for them to be doing it without music. Awkward is a word that comes to mind.

It has to be done to music or it wouldn't have the same affect. Maybe they could use a different song with a similiar beat. I am a little tired of " Who let the dogs out". There has to be a more modern song thats out right now that could be used.

Every time they play that the entire crowd goes nuts. I know you're too cool for school. You probably wear blue to home games and laugh at people who go along with WE GOT SOME DOGS UP IN HERE. However, tens of thousands of people can't be wrong when ever they play Who Let The Dawgs Out and every one is out of their seats and getting pumped up. please. I bet you think it's too hot to wear maroon this weekend.

Hey I'll be up singing it with everyone else, if thats whats playing. I just said I'm tired of that song. I'm sure everyone would also stand up and sing along with a new song if they chose to change it. That version of "Who let the dogs out " just seems dated to me. I will be wearing maroon, because maroon is all that matters, and I love all of our cheers and I do stand up and join everyone else in what ever we do at a game.

there are other songs you can play that would sound just as badass. However, if they ONLY play in when we do the DPR, i wont mind....but we all know that's not the case. That song got played about 34 times game for the past 10 years and it sucked the first 5.

Hardly gay.
Agreed! The song is the key to the dance! And the song is not findable. I have looked everywhere for that Chuck Smooth CD and yet to have come up with anything. I feel like this only adds to the dance's mystique.

chuck smooth link.

i'm sure song #2 on the album, "Bumpin' Uglies", was a hit. and who can forget #4 - "You're not the Prettiest Thing"...

in one verse, chuck says something about "halle's berry". definitely not gay.

far as Im concerned. He was long before the Mariners and the Baja Men.

The Baja Men are the white helmets of gameday music.

Notice that they only play the lyrics for the refrain. The verses are silenced because all the blue hairs would have strokes if they heard them.

"munch you like Ellen" - gay
"Giving Sheryl something to Crow about" -not so much.

Been years since I heard the whole song so I cant recall any more celeb shout outs.

About the version. I guess it's your opinion about the song being gay. But, you being dead wrong sure isn't helping give credit to your opinion.

I guess since we started playing that song around the same time that the Baha men came out with their version I always assumed it was them. Either way, the chorus is the same and thats all that gets played, and everytime I think of the Baha men I want to vomit. I bet there are a lot of people that have no clue that the version we play isn't the Baha Men. I remember getting ridiculed for it for a long time. Something by DMX could be appropriate, he loves dogs.

You haven't a clue about this topic do you?

I bet there are a lot of people that have no clue that the version we play isn't the Baha Men.

Other than the fact that it sounds nothing like the Baja Men version? Get the full Chuck Smooth version and play it and let me know if those are the same songs. There is a reason why we only play the chorus of this particular version.

I gave the single to an asst. coach and told him they need to play it. He said he would try it out and they played it at the next game. He invited me into the locker room after the game and let me sit in on the after game speech. It was definitely Chuck Smooth. I do not take full credit for discovering the song though. Zwan was the guy who told me about it and I just relayed that info to the asst. coach.

if my memory serves me correctly, chuck smooth had that out way before the baha men (at least a year). I know you might say "well no one knew who Chuck Smooth was/is" but who the 17 were the baha men?

...as you said, they don't play the verse, only the chorus. Now, considering that the choruses are identical (albeit with a different douche singing) and they began playing the song right about the same time the Baha Men's version was flooding the airwaves, AND the verse wasn't played, it MIGHT be hard for some people to know the difference in the two songs. Either way, the song <17>ing sucks. Just because it makes a reference to dogs doesn't make it cool.

"you're gonna get hit, you're gonna get hit, you're gonna get hit by the bulldog blitz" or something along those lines.

Does anyone one remember that miserable song?

You're wrong about this. The words are the same, but in Chuck Smooth's version you hear dogs growling and bass bumping under the words. In the Baha Men's version, you hear what sounds like jingling keys and maracas. It makes a HUGE difference...

I'll eat Fiona's apple, Halle's berry, Nina's Cherry. Is Debbie Harry? I need to know about. I'd love to give Sheryl somethin' to crow about. Chuck Smooth, the neighborhood mutt. Chasin' after that butt. Forget leash laws, I can't be tamed. oops, I just broke my chain.
