We have done enough......especially for the Germans. As you correctly pointed out.....if it wasn't for the U.S.A. all of Germany would now be a part of the USSR. We were the ones that stopped Uncle Joe. England,France and the rest of the little sisters in what was left of Europe could never have stopped Stalin.
The French are worthless.

Is Europe the rest of the world?
Wasn't there just a bombing in Manchester?

Europe really isn't doing all that great.

But that completely ignores everything going on in the Middle East, the human rights violations in China and North Korea. The human sex trafficking going on everywhere.

For goodness sakes ... we have an opioid epidemic right here. We can't even make people in the US behave, let alone the rest of the world.
Ok, lets be serious here for a second. Do you honestly believe the US is not committed to NATO under this President?

Today ... yes ... a month from now, who knows? If Fox News does a story or Breitbart writes an article saying we should withdraw then he will probably go that way.

How can you be so sure of our continued commitment to NATO under this president? He doesn't seem to really have any convictions about anything

Because of what I do for a living. Leveraging countries who don't live up to their requirements while simultaneously critiquing us for our lack of embracing their refusal to commit is fine in my mind.

This nonsense of claiming we aren't committed while they shirk their commitment responsibilities is the dumbest **** I've seen from the anti-Trump crowd. You're better than that.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this ...

I'm going off of what he's said and his flip flopping

"Do you think the United States needs to rethink U.S. involvement in NATO?"

"Yes, because it’s costing us too much money. And frankly they have to put up more money. They’re going to have to put some up also. We’re paying disproportionately. It’s too much. And frankly it’s a different world than it was when we originally conceived of the idea. And everybody got together.

But we’re taking care of, as an example, the Ukraine. I mean, the countries over there don’t seem to be so interested. We’re the ones taking the brunt of it. So I think we have to reconsider keep NATO, but maybe we have to pay a lot less toward the NATO itself."

"My point here is, Can the members of NATO, including the new members in the Baltics, count on the United States to come to their military aid if they were attacked by Russia? And count on us fulfilling our obligations ——"

"Have they fulfilled their obligations to us? If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes."

All his statements regarding further commitment to NATO are all coming with caveats.

He's stated it's antiquated and we need to rethink it ... he's stated we need to "reconsider keep NATO but maybe pay a lot less" ... he's stated that if they fulfill their obligations to us then we'd help ... when asked what if they don't, he didn't say one way or another.

I mean, it's like everything else, he never really gives much of a straight answer on anything ... but given that, I don't see how anybody can say it's foolish to question our ongoing commitment.

Nobody has questioned our past commitments ... but to say it's foolish to question our future in it with this guy ... nope, I'm not agreeing with that.

I read that whole thing as posturing to ensure the other NATO members understand they have commitments as being a member that they need to adhere to and take seriously. They aren't and if they aren't what kind of alliance do we truly have, if we're the only one truly and financially committed to its viability?

If he was more eloquent, it would sound like my version, but, he's a blithering fool when he speaks and thus you get the Trumpian retardese language.

However, we haven't pulled back, he has since making those statements you quoted reaffirmed our commitment numerous times. I also have legitimate issue with the other nations not living up to their financial commitments. It really does nothing for us to be the only team with skin in the game. They need to show their commitment, specifically Merkel and Germany.

I don't disagree with a single bit of that.

I would use blithering idiot rather than fool ... but same thing ... when he talks he rarely has a coherent and reasoned thought. It's more like a stream of consciousness. All the stuff that goes through our heads as we are formulating what we want to say and how to say it ... all the stuff that gets us to that point is what comes out of his mouth, and not that final product.

So, I can see where that wouldn't anybody the warm and fuzzies regarding his commitments. These are world leaders, they aren't used to dealing with somebody speaking "retardese".

And to think I made fun of W because he pronounced nuclear nucular.

And yes ... I just absolutely can't stand Trump, which does play into my feelings on these things. And it has nothing to do with his party ... couldn't stand him even before he ever thought about running.

During the campaign, I thought he was spewing his garbage about NATO just to placate the rubes and deplorables who he needed to win. Just like he did with birtherism. I thought that he really didn't believe all that garbage. But now it's apparent that he's as dumb as the people who voted him in. He's making a mess of our country in no time. I guess there are some things that he can get done.

Another well-thought out post lenny. You are truly an asset to this forum and certainly to our country. With folks like you pulling the ballot lever, we can count on the leadership we deserve for years to come.

He certainly is a cautionary tale and sober reminder. Every time I head out in public, I remember there are people out there just like lenny.

Yes......I know what you mean......Every time I see a Subaru station wagon, especially the ones festooned with the latest cause du jour stickers, I have those thoughts. I'm as guilty as you are.
