PetersEn worded his response perfectly yesterday by saying he "had no offer"...so that still gives us a little chance...he definitely was forced to address it before he wanted to...hope it doesnt go the way of Miles with Michigan last year...

But even if we dont get him, we got some other good candidates....and we will hire a good coach for the future...the old days are over

Good point... Byrne has already prooved that he is not doing things the "old way." I have complete confidence that he will land us a coach that we can all be proud of. He will look into aspects of the coaches career and what how that coach wants to establish himself within the industry. GB will make a good decision.

I guess the euphoria of getting rid of that huge parasite we had hasn`t worn off for me yet. I`m still very very upbeat.</p>

it would be you. Regardless of what happens, Wilson (OC at OK) and Whittingham (Utah) are very interested in the position. At the end of the day we will be a better program.

the old days are definitely over. y'all should be excited as hell that your AD at least has the balls to break with tradition and put together a financial package that will bring you a good coach. personally, i don't know what all the furor over petersen was -- what's he done other than continue winning at a program that was already winning big. he hasn't even been there long enough to know if he's a good coach on the one hand, or larry coker on the other. he may be really good, but y'all were acting like he was pete effing carroll.

They reported that he had accepted and then Espn and Tenn both denied it saying it wasn't true. A couple of days later and Kiffin was standing at the podium. It's not over...

he proably won`t become our coach but he wouldn`t be announcing he was going ANYWHERE right now and in any way jepordizing his team`s slight hope of getting into a BCS bowl.

It is not the MSU way. We are so used to getting scraps that we anxiously look for the worst scenario, grasp it firmly as our fate and howl. Seriously, as I said last night, it is not the time to anticipate the worst outcome. Byrne has proven himself to be a savy AD and I am certain that he will get the best man available for our job. I don't see it as blind faith on my part but rather confidence in knowing that we have a much different person in charge of our athletic department now. Templeton did some good things during his tenure for MSU, but all we can remember is his reign down the stretch when he made some questionable decisions and had some influences that most of the fan base did not care for. Byrne is a different person and we should give him a chance to do his job which he has already shown to be pretty damned capable of doing.

One of those games was a 2 touchdown victory over -- you guessed it -- BSU. That's the equivalent of losing to one of Orgeron's Ole Miss teams.

ECU was also a real powerhouse in '07, going 7-5 in the regular season. They improved to 8-5 with a bowl victory over BSU.

Yes I know about the quirky win over Oklahoma. If they played 20 times, OU wins 19.

Speaking of OU, if I were y'all I'd want their OC. I didn't know much about him til recently. He'd be a good choice.

I know the dude is supposed to be all "discreet," but the site that broke the story yesterday (Spartyandfriends.com) also broke the Kiffin story first. The one thing in common with both of these situations is Neinas. I know a Jackson station and Rumor Mill both reported the story as well, but all of those came AFTER Spartyandfriends. It seemed like the dam broke and every source on the planet started coughing up contract numbers and details once they called it a done deal.
I'd be extraordinarily chapped if this search guru had some Chatty Cathy on staff that couldn't keep their gums from flapping, and it ultimately cost us getting Petersen.

I agree with you on Wilson and Graham. Although, if Graham comes with Malzahn then that is my number one choice. I think Wilson would be a good hire also.

I just dont see Bowden fitting the criteria that Byrne himself laid out. Also, the thought of Jeff Bowden coming with him makes me sick to my stomach. And you know it would happen.

Petersen is 3-1 alltime against BCS teams.
A 42-14 win over a 10-win Oregon State in 2006
The Fiesta Bowl win which was NOT a fluke (two of OU's TD's came on a pick-6 and a short drive after a muffed punt recovery)
And this year's win at Oregon.

Sure, the Washington loss probably shouldn't've happened, but the 3 wins over good BCS teams can get me past it.

Byrne, he knows what is on the line. Glad I am not a Washington football fan, dont think I could handle 9 losses in one season by 3 TD's or more. They are going for the perfect season...

Petersen because ultimately I think it just comes down to the fact that he does not want the job. I don't think he wants to come this far south. If he doesn't want the job he does not need to be here. With the salary numbers that are being thrown around we can get a good coach and one that really wants the job. The more I think about it Wilson or Graham maybe better fits for MSU right now. Regardless, it's all about money and if the numbers are accurate MSU is about to get into the football business.
