The WatchESPN app will be available for all Comcast customers starting 5/8/2012. Was listening to 105.9 this morning and they announced it on Mile&Mike. This app had only been available for people using Verizon FiOS, Time Warner and Brighthouse Networks Internet as their service provider.

Because Comcast/xfinity is your ISP. Cable TV has no bearing on it. As long as you have a Comcast ISP acct you will be able to use the app. You just need to know what your Comcast username and password is

Has anyone who has Comcast for internet service ONLY (no cable TV service) tried this? I did, and it gave me a message about needing a television subscription.

What is up with all of this? Is it just a contractual thing where only certain tv providers have a contract with ESPN to be able to use the app? Or is it the opposite where companies like DirectTV have something in writing in order to prevent it for their customers? While I think that's crazy, I guess I could understand if they thought that the app might give you a reason to cancel tv service.

It's just frustrating because while it seems to be an awesome app, it sure is complicated to get it to work.

And by "looking", I mean "snarling and flipping the bird".

I pay AT&T for ESPN. I pay AT&T for internet. Now gimme WatchESPN, dammit.
