the simple truth is we need to get our **** straight and quit worrying about ole miss. we have to figure out a way to get competitive because sub .500 sec ball in year 5 at this point is unacceptable. we once were a proud and storied program. now we coast on, "well, next season will be better, but we added another cws appearance", but the truth of the matter is we are, and have been very average and im quite frankly a little surprised that we are so accepting of mediocrity. this is NOT about cohen or the players or any of that. its more of a introspective look at how accepting we are of losing/being average and how our athletic department is seemingly conceded our new reality of being average. we need national titles and for us to do that, we have to have elite talent, elite coaching, and elite facilities. we are SEVERELY lacking in some of those areas and we need to turn this thing around fast. we need to raise expectations for the program as a whole and get this thing moving downhill and snowballing so that winning becomes easier. one thing is certain, talent must improve and just finding some hitters shouldnt be this damn hard considering the advantages we hold over other programs in the country and in our conference. im tired of underachieving and we need to start focusing on prioritizing items that we need to win championships instead of what it takes to get by. we need to assume our rightful place back at the top of sec baseball and 11th in the league in team batting average is a huge sign that we are pretty damn far from that.
its not about winning the sec, its not about winning the sec tournament, its not about attendance figures, its not about team batting average, its not about team era, its not about beating tsun or lsu, its not about hosting, its not about winning regionals, its not about winning super regionals, its about winning 17ing championships. period. that is how the lsu baseball program thinks and its no coincidence they make it to omaha and win titles as a result. we are not committed to winning and that is something that needs to change culturally from top to bottom. we need to become machines at getting the elite talent we need year-in-year-out and make some improvements to how we do things. making it to the csw is great and all, but it means nothing if you never achieve the ultimate goal....not that this team is remotely capable of achieving that ultimate goal, but considering the pieces we returned, the gap should not have been this wide.
