I agree. I think that Dooley will be a hot commodity in 2 years. TE coach/recruiting coordinator for SABAN...then Saban takes him with him to Miami. I trust Saban on this one. However, I don't wanna take anyone from a lower level until they absolutely have dominated that conference, and I think Dooley will do that in 2 years. We're just not in the position to take chances right now.

...he wouldn't be my first choice, but he has experience, knows the area, was recruiting coordinator at LSU under Saban, and was a special teams coach, among other things. He's fairly young and energetic. In short, pretty much all the criteria Byrne outlined. His problem is that he doesn't have the name appeal that some of the others have, and I'd be concerned about what he'd be getting paid. If we committed 1.5 to 2M per year for him, that would be a big mistake...we could get better for that kind of money.

In the end, I do believe this will be the kind of hire State makes, though. Bowden is a retread. Petersen and Patterson aren't coming. Patterson has turned down 2M per year jobs at Minnesota and Kansas State (his alma mater).

Derek Dooley just reminds me of an ambulence chasing lawyer too much. He had practiced law before he got into coaching and has that sleezy look about him. I would like for us to hire someone who has been in coaching for more than 8 years and someone who doesnt have there daddy out there making phone calls for them ala Vince Dooley and Lou Houltz.</p>
