What about a GoFundMe to renovate it? Taking an idea from Mississippi and actually doing something useful with it. Thoughts?

We could make it something like a Gameday multi-use plaza with restrooms, indoor seating, maybe a restaurant, etc. This would be downstairs and upstairs would be classrooms, offices, etc. like it is now.

Restaurant? They just spent a ton of money on the auditorium.

There are plans to rebrick it. They just need to go ahead and make that happen.

They should not have made plans to rebrick. They should have just ordered the damn bricks and started immediately. That thing is an eyesore.

I agree. It's a decent facility, and if it weren't florescent orange and the only non-matching building on campus it would be ok. But it (deservingly) is the first thing people mention when talking about stuff they don't like at State.

It's appearance is appropriate since that's where the ugliest people on campus had class when I was in school. And yes, I had classes there.

was dorman the athletic dorm?

#toooldtoremember

Dorman was the home of Forestry and Wildlife for many years. Spent a many a day and night in that place. The basement was a dungeon that grad students used as offices.

Any old MSU Forestry grads on here?

Just thinking outside the box....eliminate the Junction Johns by putting in bathrooms that are accessible from the exterior on gamedays only, perhaps a grill type restaurant that is open year round for students/faculty and on gameday for catering or walk up service kinda like at some pro fields, an area for older folks when it's hot to cool off and watch the game, etc. Just thoughts for making it something special and a part of the junction while still being functional for the students...

It has the look and feel of Stalin era housing for low level bureaucrats, without the aesthetics . Best to bulldoze and start over.

Pretty good idea. I went to a well-to-do FCS school's game a couple weeks ago during our bye week and they actually had a catering company. If you were in town from another school, they provided tents, chairs, a bar/bartender, and a grill with a guy who cooks all of it (for the 100 odd people it was about $20 each).

I don't think it'd ever work at a state school, but it would be a fantastic idea for the Bulldog Club as an additional revenue stream.

Great idea, there was a thread on this years ago on GP

Ideally, Dorman needs to be scrapped with a new building built with its main entrance centered on the Junction's main sidewalk that has the bulldog statue. In my mind, this will eventually be one of 2 bookends of the Junction with the other being the renovated South Endzone of Davis Wade. That said, the design of the building should take this into consideration and take inspiration from the exterior of the new North Endzone.

Another few thoughts: first floor should be wide open (similar to Student Union) with large capacity restrooms along with a few flat screen TVs mounted on the walls. This could be a great Gameday headquarters, and would be nice to include a few couches and seating areas as well. Finally, it should include a rooftop reception area and patio overlooking The Junction (something like The Alluvian has). This could be a great for the University to host receptions and entertain guests.

On a completely different note, I ran into an older alumni this weekend who was telling stories about when the baseball stadium was located where Dorman is facing the Vet School. He was saying they used to walk back to the dorm and fraternity house to grab a drink and then walk back to the game. I realize that Dudy Noble probably needs to stay in its current location but it did make me think about what it would be like having the baseball stadium adjacent to The Junction. We have the Left Field Lounge but could only imagine 10-15 thousand people tailgating before and after the game when we have huge weekends like a super regional. Just a random thought if the field had never been moved.
