It's entertainment but it's not reality because a writer says it is.

Well, I think it is reality that the team has some serious question marks. Predictions are just predictions, and I don't much stock into any of them...as evidenced by the wild inaccuracy of preseason polls. However, it is reality that this team has plenty of question marks outside of QB. Those who predict us to have a very good playoff-caliber season are predicting almost entirely based off of Sellers. Every preseason prediction I've read that has us in or challenging for the playoffs has based that prediction solely on Sellers being Superman. Steele is taking a more holistic approach, looking at the overall roster. Sellers is very good, but he only plays one position.

I think the main focus of the thread has been on the validity of the predictions (guesses) of the writer being any better than our own guesses.
Both have a 50/50 chance of being right or wrong. Lack of defense, poor OL play, and an ineffective running game will make Seller's job a very difficult one and it's just a guess as to how those elements will actually perform. You can count on defenses having a plan for Sellers (spies) which may open up things for someone else to step up and hopefully our OC has a plan.

It's also an age old situation. We see every question mark on our team as a sure success with either an improvement or the next guy being just as good.

All our opponents question marks will automatically be regressions.

Im just ready to get the season started

I'm ready, too, for the season to start

I think the defense could surprise. I say that because Clayton White has produced Top 50 defenses here and elsewhere. So he is proven.....competent.

My concern is the offensive line and whether we will have a running game. If we don't have a running game, Sellers will have a hard time producing. And if we have no offensive line, we have no running game. I hope Teasley produces. I do think Shula is an upgrade from Loggains, who was an upgrade from Satterfield. By the way, if Teasley proves he can't get the job done, Beamer should do what Matt Rhule has done at Nebraska. Rhule moved Satterfield from OC to being the TE coach, where he could do less damage. I trust Shawn Elliott more to coach our OL than I do Lonnie Teasley. By the way, who knew that Satterfield was not OC material?;)

To me, Teasley is the clear weakest link on this staff and I cannot understand why he was brought back after the 2023 season and then again after last season. He produced one of the worst OL in college football in back-to-back seasons.

True...but he recruits as well as any OL coach we have ever had. Can we just let Shawn coach on game day?

So he's the best o-line recruiter we've ever had. But can't recruit better o-lines then we've had here before him. That doesn’t even make sense.

Sure it does. The quality of a good OL in the SEC is now a function of capital. Our capital is limited.

Why so concerned about the OL when our offense was ranked in the Top 5/10 the second half of the season?

New age offensive schemes purposely have OLs collasping to create lanes for RPOs so it's almost impossible to measure at times.

Most of the teams that he projected to be in front of us have more question marks than us. According to on3 recruiting rankings, we’ve been recruiting as good as anybody. The odd makers and Steele have been wrong about Beamer led teams for 3/4 years.

The front 7 on defense is a real concern. I know they have Dylan Stewart as a Pre-season All American but it's similar to Clowney's situation when the defense graduated guys like Melvin Ingram and Travian Robertson. Teams just learned to chip him with a RB.

One thing I’ve learned from being a Gamecock since the sixties is not to take anything for granted. I can’t count the times we have started an opening game by doing unreal bad things. It’s like if you took a legal pad and made a list of things not to do we do’em. sometimes we were able to overcome the mistakes sometimes not. With that caution though we should beat VT but it’s the killer schedule behind VT that gives me pause. One injury to a mobile qb and GULP! Don’t even think it.

That's the truth.

One interesting thing is that the weird "first game jitters" transcends coaching staffs and players.

If it was the product of a coaching philosophy, that would be one thing. But continually laying an egg early? Frustrating, and frustrating to address too.

As an AD, I would schedule patsies the first game from now on. Especially if we go to a 9 game conference schedule.
