Doubt mounting around Butch Jones at UT

No doubt. But Tennessee is not a hotbed of football talent either. They have about a 1/3 of the # of players in the NFL as Georgia. About 1/2 as many as Alabama and Louisiana. And they trail their nearby neighbors in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Bottom line: There's not enough football talent in Tennessee for UT to share with Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi State. Butch Jones has to lock down East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and compete in Memphis. And despite the recruiting success of the past few years, that's not happening this year.

Tennessee works to make up for their shortage of in-state talent by extending their presence into Western North Carolina over to Charlottte. Stoops is doing the same thing by extending Kentucky's presence into Southern Ohio and on up to Youngstown.
If we were talking 10 to 15 years ago, you would be correct. Over the last 5 or 6 years, our state has produced more 4 and 5 stars than South Carolina and Mississippi and they have been legit. If you like, I'll post a comparison of the charts to show you. The state of Alabama is who we're trailing now. They are producing more now, but we're closing the gap.

And in truth, the Georgia win was one of the most absolute flukes ever seen. And Florida should also have been a lost. Won't even mention Appalachian State.
Except we made adjustments and blew Florida out in the second half. As far as the UGA game, heartbreaks happen. Remember your premature celebration before LSU hit the long pass play for a TD? Big plays that end games are part of the game, bub. Kudos to Jauan Jennings for out fighting 5 UGA defenders for the ball.

IMO, Butch has one more season to atone. He is still recruiting well despite UT's downfalls. At this time they are ranked 9th in the country in recruiting for 2017. If he doesn't make some noise next year, he will be gone.

Botch has been given a bowl win served up perfectly. Committee saw fit to essentially give them a home game in Nashville against Nebraska who has injury issues with their QB and best WR. Doubt even he can screw this one up.

Pikespeak1, please read TruBluCatFan's response.

Any "joke" explained losses all humor, but here goes.

The thread started with the link to an article questioning Butch Jones at UT, and the hold he has on his job . . . . and that is the Head Football Coach at UT.

Someone, I forget who (but he had a Kentucky sounding nickname) very snidely said that Butch Jones had managed to get a recruiting commitment from the number one offensive lineman from Tennessee, unlike Stoops (Kentucky's Head Football Coach). . . . in an apparent reference to this recruiting year's phenom in Kentucky, Wills . . . . a big o-lineman in a Lexington School, who is currently committed to Bama (Alabama).

Then another poster (very sarcastically and I thought humorously) queried the original poster, as to whether he was speaking about Landon Young (here's where it gets tough): By referencing the 2015 commit of Landon Young, the dude responding to the first guy who questioned Stoops for losing Wills, was putting it in his face by saying, again, in a fashion some find confusing . . . . "Hey dumbass, STOOPS LANDED THE BEST LINEMAN IN THE STATE LAST YEAR IN LANDON YOUNG." But he said it in a cool, sarcastic, humorous fashion. Kind of like when someone says about a football prognosticator, "Hell, he picked the Germans in World War II." Such a comment does not really mean someone who picks current football games thought the Germans would win WWII, or even that they were alive during WWII, it's just a sarcastic, over-the-top-statement that pushes home a particular point, in a fashion that some might find humorous.

OK, now, so when the one poster threw the mention of Landon Young up asking if that was the number one recruit Stoops had failed to land, I giggled, getting the joke that the 2nd poster was throwing Young's name up to show that Stoops has been a good recruiter... . and then I doubled down on the joke, by saying, something to the effect, that he must be referring to the loss of Drake Jackson . . . . and, yes, WE ALL KNOW WE DIDN'T LOSE JACKSON, . . . . that's the heart of the humor.

And I know it ain't funny, now.

Kinda' like me at a college party 30 years ago, speaking to a young lady who had asked a follow up question about a joke . . . . and my response . . . . "uhh, no, uhhh, in fact a Priest, a Rabbi and a Baptist Minister probably never have walked into a bar at the same time . . . . and that's like part of the reason why that was supposed to be funny . . . ."

Bluegrass, there is a lot of perception in the two programs. It's going to take UK coaches time to make someone like Willis, believe he can accomplish the same thing at UK as he can at Alabama. By that, I mean, believe UK can get him to the pros. If we stay the course, and keep winning, we can change the culture, and the perception of players we are recruiting, just as Coach Cal has in basketball. It's not going to happen in a couple of years, but I think we are on the right course. At least I, and a lot of UK fans are hoping the present coaching staff are on the right course.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
You are absolutely correct. Steve Spurrier knew he could take the train wreck of South Carolina's program and recruit based on his name. They succeeded to the level we are approaching. However, until he convinced the best SC high school athletes beginning with Ashon Jeffries and later Marcus Lattimore did his recruiting start to match SEC's best. They also began to win in the 10-11 range.

We somehow need to keep Jed Wills home as well as the best of Kentucky's kids. Then our recruiting classes move the needle toward top ten classes. Yes, consistently winning clearly helps recruiting. Why not?

I was going to pull up that old thread where a poster picked Germany to win WWII, but I remembered I gave him crap for his pick then and we don't like to remind people of their poor wagers after the fact.

Wills never wanted to go to UK. UK would probably had to go undefeated to have a chance at getting him. He just doesn't bleed blue like Landon Young and Drake Jackson. Is that too hard to understand?
Besides, I know it may seem a bit naive, but I think he may have been in Landon Young's shadow a little bit in high school and may not want to get in that situation again!

Butch Jones is the best Coach in the Country from Feb to August
