The ref actually pointed to the shot clock. I always thought the ref does his own count and is not supposed to rely on the shot clock. I could be wrong.

Every time he calls our game we get screwed. I hate watching games he calls.

how that dick can still be allowed to be a ref is beyond me...
Refs do have grudges, but his is to an extreme against Rick.

I found an old article stating that he got suspended by the ACC for a game
for telling a Maryland player that "he would see him next week" after giving him a Tech, and later the coach.

according to the stats, he is in the middle of the pack as a referee. Of course, this site doesn't judge the quality, just the quantity of fouls called. The fact that 59 people have taken the time to rate him as horrible pretty much says that most people agree with you.

so legitimately it could have been 10 seconds. But when Trent Johnson complained, the ref pointed to the shot clock which I thought was not correct.

Otherwise, the 10-second call would have been made when the shot clock reached 25. The ref, like most refs, was slow on his 10-second count.

The shot clock starts when the ball is inbounded so most of the time referees use that as their reference. The guy definitely took his time up the court and I do think it was ten. But I do agree they should be thinking it to themselves as well.

I seem to remember a commentator say that the shot clock determines the 10 second violation now. I don't know when that rule was changed, but I heard it on a broadcast early this season or sometime last season.

The devil will challenge God to a basketball game. God will accept and exclaim that the "devil has no chance - he has Jordan, Bird, Erving - the greatest to ever play"

The devil will respond by saying "but I have Doug Shows and Karl Hess."

He only looked to the shot clock AFTER he'd made the call. And even then only to shut up a coach who was bitching about the call. So why are you saying he used the shot clock to count the 10 seconds instead of his own count?

I guess you do, obviously. Personally, if I were in his position, I'd have done the exact same thing. Of course it would have been pretty embarrassing for him if he'd looked up after making the 10-second call and saw that the shot clock read 26 seconds.

Edited to add: Yeah, I'm pretty bored and unmotivated at work today and that's why I keep responding to this thread.
