Again, I know I'm the only one watching, but the Dominicans just were eliminated by the Netherlands.

that's crazy. I can't believe the Netherlands actually beat them twice. Did the Netherlands even have a MLB player on their team?

Sidney Ponson is the only guy that a passing major league baseball fan would know. There were 2 other guys on there that I know only because I follow baseball very closely. They are probably the most inexperienced team in the entire tournament.

Yeah, Randall was a Brave for a little bit. Wasnt a terrible pinch hitter/4th day or so 1st baseman either. When I saw his name on the roster I started laughing. I was kinda wondering why in the world he would be playing for the Netherlands.

or maybe China has the most inexperienced teams in the WBC.

The Netherlands has Ponson, as mentioned, Randall Simon, who is best known for hitting one of the Milwaukee Brewers sausages duing the sausage race when he was with the Pirates, and Eugene Kingsale have MLB experience. And that's about it.

So does that really mean the Neherlands beat the Dominican in the European sense? Or, the Netherlands beat the Dominican in the (insert tiny Carribbean island) sense?

The Nederlands (as their jerseys say) are managed by former Tenn. coach, Rod Del Monico (sp?). He likes teams in orange I guess.

Could A-Rod be more of a loser in all competitions? That guy is like the grim reaper when it comes to playing on a talented team competing for a championship of some sort.

A-Rod had nothing to do with them losing. He pulled out of the tournament right before he started. It only got a passing mention on all the major news networks, but he has a hip injury. I think I heard he had surgery too, but I can't confirm that as I haven't seen much about it lately.

is that he is going to- I know he had a cyst aspirated in the hip. I've just been kind of passively hearing about it.

A-Rod was in a kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. In 06, the Dominicans were pissed because he played for the US, and now they're pissed because he pulled out late. Maybe they have a right to be, but if he is hurt, you have to wonder how much he would have really helped them out. The Dominicans don't seem to see it that way, though.

It doesn't seem like he can do anything right nowadays.

This is one time where he did nothing wrong. Arod deserves a lot of the ridicule he gets because he just says and does some idiotic things at times, but when the team that is paying you 27 million wants you to have a surgery so you can be ready for the season then the Dominican Republic can really say nothing about it
