West Jones wins 5A title 33-27. West Point got 20 points off 2 turnovers and a long kickoff return to take what should have been a routine win to the final minute.

First title for WJ, awesome for them. They've had a lot of good teams over the years and a very passionate fanbase, I know this means a lot down there. Scott Pierson has long been one of the most underrated coaches in the state.

Having been on both the winning side and the losing side multiple times in state title games. There ain't nothing better than winning the first one. Losing one HURTS, period. For the kids unless they are extremely fortunate, they are all the first one.

Can't believe this is his 19th season. Those early Hyatt-Barefoot-Archie Sims teams don't seem like that long ago. It's kind of amazing he never was able to win one in the 2000s, they had a ton of close calls and teams that came up just short. But glad that he finally got one.

Dude was an incredible athlete, great soccer and baseball player too. The battles those teams had with Wayne County back in the day were epic.

Congrats to my HS. Graduated in the second class in 67. Haven’t been to the school since. I always viewed HS as a waste of time before college.
