If going to Starkville from Kenner, La, is it faster to go through Meridian or Jackson? Any help would be appreciated. I will be making that drive to a lot of games this season and would like to take the shortest route.

and we go through Jackson, you are good bit further east though. If 45 is four laned between Meridian and Starkville I would say that would be the way to go. If not probably a toss up.

It will take 30 minutes to get through all the stop/starts of redlights of Lakeland Drive. Going through Meridian, Hwy. 45 is four laned the entire way, with one 4-way stop in Scooba....and maybe a red light in Macon? I think you'd make much better time this way.<div>
</div><div>Edited to add: If there is any part of Hwy. 45 in Mississippi that isn't 4-laned yet, I'm not aware of it. I'm pretty sure it's 4-laned from State Line, MS (AL border) to Tennessee now. </div>

Avoid Lakeland Dr. at all costs, unless you're going through during a weekday. And avoid it around 5:00 - 6:00 even then. On a Saturday or during ruch hour it could easily take an hour to get 15 miles from I-55. Take the I-59 - Hwy 45 - Hwy 82 route. If you do go through Jackson, take the Natchez Trace to Hwy 16, then cut over to Hwy 25 there.</p>

I live in Meridian but work in Decatur, just 9 miles north of Newton. Take the Newton exit (Hwy 15) head north and go through Decatur, Union, Philly, Noxapater, and then hit 25 in Louisville. Sounds horrible but you only hit 1 light in Decatur, 1 stop sign in Union, 1 light (maybe 2) around Philly and 1 stop sign in Noxapater.

I often leave my office at ECCC in Decatur (to go to Starkville) and I never go back through Meridian....

Just another option for you. As with any route, timing traffic is going to be the biggest factor.

In 25 years as a season ticket holder I always came to the stadium from the N or W. This year we are flying into Mobile and coming to the LSU game from Biloxi.
As I approach the Promised Land via 45 through Meridian should I go all the way to 82, take old 82, or approach on Oktoc Road? And I won't have a parking pass. Haven't been to a game on campus for 5 years. Oh, and when leaving campus I need to be headed back toward Jackson. Thanks to any kind dawg, and I owe you an ATV trip when you're on the western slope.

Even if coming from the south, I'd stay on the 4-lane highways and enter from the north. Also, if you're not tailgating, park across Hwy. 82 at the research park and use the shuttles. Absolutely awesome when you get the shuttles figured out. I wouldn't even attempt to find a parking place on campus.

Thank you. I do look forward to meeting former tailgating group in the junction (which was malfunctional last time I saw it), but all I have to do is show up.
If you ever get anywhere on the western slope let me know.

Thanks for all the replies. From my address Mapquest shows through Jackson being about five minutes faster but that doesn't calculate the variables you guys have mentioned. One thing not mentioned is that from Kenner through Meridian you have to go back across the New Orleans traffic on 10 and 610. However, most of my travel would be on Friday nights so I don't think traffic would be a huge deal. I'll experiment on the first few trips and let you know what the exact differences are.

That's the way I used to go, and would still go from my parents house. But if you're coming from the southwest, don't take the Hwy 15 exit at Laurel. You'll spend between 15 and 30 minutes going through Laurel on Hwy 15. It's no Lakeland Dr., but it can be a ***** to get through. Especially on a Saturday.

and the best one I have come up with thus far is through Canton. I take 55 to the main Canton exit and get on Highway 16. That meets up with Highway 25 right at Carthage. You completly bypass the Lakelandtraffic. This route is about 5 miles longer than it is to go 25/Lakeland, but depending on the traffic, youcan save anywhere from 15-30 minutes travel time.

ETA: The best route from Natchez most definitely be to take the Natchez Trace to Mathiston, if I could actually go faster than a snail's pace and not be issued a citation.
