Drivers who refuse to get out of the left lane while driving slower and not passing anyone is by far the biggest offense of stupidity I see on the road on a daily basis.

The next level of stupid is that same person not moving over even after you flash your brights. I get it. You may be cruising in the fast lane in lighter traffic and not notice someone is behind you wanting to pass. But to totally ignore the bright flash is straight up asking to be run off the road.

Look up zipper merging. It's 100% the correct way to merge, but nobody does it. Unfortunately, everyone has to be on board with it or it doesn't work.

The gist is to use all available road to keep traffic flowing. For instance, when you see people on a 3 lane highway get in the far right lane a mile and a half before their exit, it causes that lane to get clogged and stop. Then the cars in the middle lane can't get over without slowing way down to find a spot to squeeze in. This impacts the flow of the middle lane and eventually screws up everything.

The correct way is to have both the right and middle lanes go the speed limit until you get close to the exit and then the people in the right lane each let a middle lane car over like a zipper closing.

But people are stupid and get mad when you try to merge late because their dumbasses have been sitting in the right lane for 20 mins and think it's unfair that you are "cutting" in line.

So much this.

This is my merge every morning from I-65N onto the Watterson. Right lane backs up to a stop and nobody wants to zipper because it's "cutting."

I'm the guy who slides in right up front. Learned this the first week I began this commute. Saves 15-20 minutes no ish.

Yep. Same thing with my commute home on I-64E to Gene Snyder. I also slide right up to the front and smile at the losers waiting in the right lane. There's always a semi or idiot on their phone in the right lane that leaves a gap and I squeeze right in. Saves a ton of time.

I can't really complain too much about driving around Lexington. I really think it's the best driving in the state.
False. Totally false. I dread coming to Lex driving. SOB's are as slow as can be to limit the number of cars that can get thru a light. Must do it on purpose to miss pe off. traffic always backed up. No such thing as getting somewhere quickly. Has to be the worst traffic in country for such a small town. That said, like just about everything else about the place.

No one in Lexington knows how to use a 4 way stop. Are they not common around the US? Somehow we’re better at roundabouts than 4 way stops. This is not a racist or prejudiced statement, but there is not a single Hispanic person that I’ve ever seen use one correctly. They’re very kind and will let you go before them, but dammit, just use it right. Don’t get me started on women ....
See my just previous post about not caring to go anywhere. Stupid ****. Roundabouts do dumb driving down as long as folks go in the correct direction.

The person in front of me who stops short of the line in a sensor-equipped left turn lane and can't for the life of them figure out that they need to pull forward to register on the sensor in order for the light to turn green.
As opposed to the ones who stop over the crosswalk lines and don't trip the sensor because their tail end is past it.

I don't like adaptive cruise control. I find it dangerous. Previous vehicle would not allow the driver to completely disable it, and this was a deciding factor in choice of the vehicle that replaced it. Even on the closest setting, you have to start coming out around to pass with 8-10 car lengths of gap (w/o slowing down and getting trapped) and that puts you out in a faster lane sooner and longer than you want to be, now making you the ******* impeding everybody. Otherwise, you're forced to constantly be messing with the cruise control, rendering it virtually useless b/c the pedal is easier.
I just put my foot to the pedal to override the acc & then let it slow back to the setting when I'm done speeding up.

I live on a rural highway and have to slow down to turn in my drive. Just now almost got run over by a woman that is under the impression I could turn in at 60 mph. Then she stopped as though it was my fault.

I hope she has a crappy Christmas.
Don't you put your turn signal on 5-10 seconds before you hit the brake to slow? That tells em you're going to slow.

My #1 pet peeve is people who drive in the left lane on an interstate while not actively passing.

#2 is people who see a sign that says "left lane closed in 3 miles" and immediately go to the right lane. I wait until the last minute because that's exactly what 50% of the cars should do, and because I can always get in. Waiting is for stooges.
All the cars in the left lane should stay in it till end, not just 50%. Otherwise you have 75% in right lane & 25% in left vs. 50-50.

I've concluded there's a lot of people who are in no hurry to go anywhere & like sitting in traffic.

-people who speed/change lanes frequently in the impotent hope of "making time"...do the math, driving like a meth addict doesn't actually pick up much time. Give yourself a little more time/learn to manage your time better and don't subject the rest of us to your agression. In short: your lack of planning is not our problem.

-I'm all for making good time on the interstate/expressway, but slow TF down in residential areas.

-A good driver should not have to touch the brake pedal on the interstate, save for emergencies or stop and go traffic.

-People are way too cavalier turning right on red. It's a red light, not a yield sign...

-...which reminds me, a yield sign is not a stop sign.

-This is more of a traffic design issue, but traffic circles > traffic lights.

Brake tappers/riders. These are the numbnuts who either ride their brakes or tap on them whenever another car approaches then in opposite lane or can't control the distance from the car in front of them, iow tailgaters. If it gets too bad I'll flash my brights on their ***.

I’m in the left lane behind a string of 12 cars passing cars on the right. Some a-hole pulls up behind me flashing his lights, then gets in the right lane to pass me. I have to hit my brakes hard to keep him from taking out the front of my car. FU a-hole! I can’t go faster than all the cars ahead of me.

When you're pulling a hill on a highway with 2 lanes coming up on 2 semis in the right lane, and the semi going 57 mph HAS to get over in the left lane to pass the semi going 55 mph, making you and all the other cars who were going 65-70 mph slow down considerably, all so the slow-@ss semi can pass the slower-@ss semi.

Those are, without question, the worst humans behind a steering wheel. Chances are you are already doing 10+ above the limit. Or more. Which means 80 plus. And some dick thinks he has the right to demand for you to volunteer to move over into slow traffic that will have you hung up 10-15 mph slower for the next 2 or 3 miles, all because he has announced himself on your *** end. Not to mention, as you stated, incapable of recognizing your speed is dictated by the traffic in front of you. These people are the socialists of the highways, believing they have the right to make demands of others, to take, create benefits for themselves, become angry when they cannot be served.

None of this compares to the big trucks that want to race my 50yr old *** in my little 4 cylinder rusty old Toyota. They rev the engine bolt ahead of me only to wait on me to drift up beside them at the next light. WTF? OK, you spent $10 in gas to go 50 feet. Congratulations? Even dumbasses in pos rebuilds do it. Black smoke rolling, engine about to blow but damn if they are gonna let a toyota arrive at a red light before them. Ignorant asses.

This happened again today.
If you are behind that person, can't you just pull up and take their place on the sensor?

This happened to me ~3 months ago: I pull off the highway and onto the exit ramp at my exit, and there are 2 lanes that turn left. The car in front of me stops 5-10 feet behind the line; the semi in the other left turn lane stops 25-30 feet behind the line(!). So, the light cycles through, skips our turn light. Of course, neither of these other vehicles move any closer to the line to trip the sensor. So I have to whip my vehicle over into the space provided by the semi so SOMEBODY is tripping the sensor so we get to go on the next light cycle. You're welcome, dumb@sses.

Yes, but I was just approaching the intersection just when the turn arrow was missed, not stopped behind already. If I'm not in a particular hurry, I sometimes purposely stay back to let the DA ahead wonder why they didn't get the arrow. It's f-ing amazing how few know, or don't give an ish, the white white line across the lane lets you know where to stop for the sensor.

Not obeying left turn yield signs, not waving thank you when I let someone in front of me, not using turn signals, driving the speed limit in the fast lane.

I'm all for zipper. Although it appears that some in this thread agree and others disagree.

My old commute had a section that had 2 lanes going up a hill that went to 1 lane (merge left) as you went over the hill. I use to always get in the left lane as soon as I could and just wait (part of it I contributed to trying to be "too polite"). But after I read a story on zipper a year ago, I started going the opposite, and would get in the right lane and go all the way to the end and merge.

The people who stayed in the left lane would back up traffic through an intersection which would in turn create more congestion for other drivers going other directions. If more people had gotten in the right lane, it would have eased some problems.

Lots of good posts in this thread.

One I haven't seen mentioned is the people who, for some unknowable reason, stop 2, 3, or even 4 or more car lengths behind the car in front of them at a stop light; especially those idiots who do this in left turn lanes. Why? :chairshot::chairshot::chairshot:

OP kind of spoke on the one I hate: A car on the exit ramp going 25mph, trying to merge with cars going 65mph.

Pickup trucks: Always up your *** when behind you.. always some old guy going 15mph when ahead of you..

Pick-ups might be the most inconsistent drivers out there. They are either flying up your rear or setting their own pace with no regard for who is behind them. No ability to pass typically.

It's true man.. like when you drive down a road and come up to a runner... there's ALWAYS an oncoming car that lines up EXACTLY with you and the runner, so one of you has to stop. Always!
