just received this email. I apologize if this is MAN ON THE MOON.

You may want to pass this along to anyone who likes tennis at all. Roger Federer has also said he will be there and US better be ready to play.He will probably play either Andy Roddick or James Blake so your getting like a Grand Slam Final match. Not very often you get a chance to see maybe the best player of all time

Hey All,

Tommy has just been informed this information:

The USTA has set the ticket information for the Davis Cup in Birmingham.

Essentially, it will work like this: Tickets go on sale to the public Jan. 16 at noon. USTA members can have access to a presale Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. to Jan. 15 at 5 p.m.

Ticket prices will be sold as a three-day series with prices ranging from $60 to $500. That price covers all three days. Tickets can be purchased by calling 888-484-8782 or at ticketmaster.com.

I hope this helps. Tommy will not be getting
tickets so you will have to purchase them through
ticketmaster.

All the information will be in the Decatur Daily
tomorrow as well.
Thanks All,
Rhonda

I'm already working on finalizing a group of people to go. DS was too cheap to shell out the $$ though. Still waiting to hear from Meoff (dude you going or not?).

The problem is that they don't have a seating chart yet and all they have is the ticket range of $60-$500. You don't have any idea how that is split up so it's hard to decide what level of tickets to get in advance.

Pat - how many people you got going so far and which days are y'all going to be there?

I actually e-mailed the USTA Sunday and asked them if is was just a big secret how much they were going to charge for tickets. Makes it damned near impossible to nail down exactly who wants in and who doesn't when we don't even know how much the tickets will cost ($60-$500 range, gee thanks for narrowing that down for us USTA). Right now I've got 5 confirmed and 3 probablies to get tickets in the $200 - $300 range, which will max out the 8 tickets I can purchase. I've still got to hear from a couple more people, which would be an additional 3-4 tickets so I may have to split us up into two groups. PM me if you want to be included in the second group.

lots of them don't know what the hell they're doing. it will probably be like the basketball layout at the BJCC, but it's ridiculous that they are going to sell tickets and not be able to tell you where you'll be. i just saw this on ticketmaster:

The USTA is in the process of creating the seating layout, therefore you will NOT receive specific seat assignments at this time. Once the layout is complete, seats will be assigned on a best available basis. Orders will be processed based on the date and time the order was received.

The USTA tells me
We apologize for the inconvenience. USTA does not sell the tickets. We were able to make arrangements for a presale for out active member with tickermaster. You will need to log on to their web site or call 1-888-484-8782.
Then I go to the ticketmaster website and see that they're waiting on the USTA to create a seating layout. And when I call the number I get nothing but a prerecorded message with no chance to talk to anyone to ask a quesiton. Maybe it's my fault for going to ticketmaster.com instead of tickermaster.com like she told me to. Seriously, I'm about ready to strangle someone at the USTA if I could only find out who's responsible for this cluster17. How can you possibly have a major event like this and not even announce ticket prices less than 24 hours before they go on sale?

and had to deal with them every year. also hosted a davis cup tie (sampras on grass). they took SO LONG to get anything done - it was really ridiculous. they had so many levels of approval and blah blah blah.

they were amazed that during our april tournament, we would be selling series tickets for the next april's tournament. they couldn't believe we were that far ahead. i know, it truly is an earthshattering marketing plan - capitalize on excitement and sell them on next year while they're here this year.

i really don't understand why they wouldn't postpone the ticket sales until they knew what the seating layout will be. it would be easier to delay it one week than it will be to deal with all those ticket buyers who are pissed about where their seats are, because they couldn't choose where they wanted to sit.

that said, y'all are going to have an amazing time watching world-class tennis.

I know of at least 5 of us that want to go but it's impossible to organize really without the ticket prices.

Pat - are you guys going for all 3 days? We're thinking of just going Friday and then playing Saturday by ear but probably won't hang around for Sunday

We are going for all 3 days. I'd recommend you at least stay for the doubles on Saturday. Watching the Bryans play is going to be a real treat. And they'll be playing Federer/Wawrinka so it won't be their usual easy win. They could very well lose that match.

any idea what time the Saturday match is?

I think the Friday matches start at 6:00 but that's all I've been able to find.

it will probably be the most entertaining of all the matches. of course, no one knows about doubles, but the bryan brothers playing for the davis cup on home turf will be well worth your time. high-level doubles play is fun to watch.

Ticket prices are as follows:
Level 1- $500
Level 2- $390
Level 3- $240
Level 4- $120
Level 5- $60

Apparently, you can only buy tickets for the entire weekend and can't buy individual session tickets.
Also, buying a level doesn't guarantee you a certain seat, b/c if 10,000 people bought Level 1 tickets they would get the best seats. There is no restriction on the number of Level 1 seats that are going to be sold from what I understand.

On times, I would think that the first match on Friday would start before 6, but not sure. They will have to play two best of five set matches that night.

You have to buy for all 3 days - seriously?

Is each match considered a session or is it a Friday pass/Sat. Pass/ Sun. pass?

That leveling system is awful weird as well. I know my group wants to head back on Sunday so don't know how they're going to feel about having to buy Sunday tickets.

it's common to only sell series tickets for a while, hoping to sell as many as possible. then, whatever's left, they'll open up for individuals. i'm sure they know that friday and sunday will be much hotter tickets than saturday. it should be individual tickets, though, not a pass. so you could go ahead and try to sell the sunday only tickets on ebay or try to sell them when you get there.

individual tickets for friday and saturday may be as much as a series ticket would. plus, if you get federer v roddick on sunday, you could come out pretty well.

Any idea if the listed price, $500 for example is for the entire weekend or is it $500 for each day?

If you're thinking about going for just 1 day, you might want to check some of the ticket resellers (just google davis cup tickets and you'll find plenty of them). If you're going for 2 days, you might be better off buying 3-day tickets and then selling the tickets for the 3rd day (I may be able to buy 2 or 3 1-day tickets from you).
