Normal config: DSL modem----->Linksys Router----> Workgroup Multiswitch

Now the only part of this config that works, is the direct connection from the DSL modem directly to computer by Cat 6 cable.

*Wireless connection is detected but the modem is not communicating w/it
*Cable ports on both the router and the multiswitch do not send out signal from modem

*Capt Obvious say that the modem isn't communicating w/anything but the computer, but why?
*Calls to ISP say call Linksys
*Linksys call wait backed up for looong time
Any ideas or solutions

The modem will only lock to whatever is connected downstream via ethernet when the modem is powered on. If your modem talks to the computer with no problems, then the computer must have been it. Connect the modem to the Internet or WAN port on the router, power cycle both, and wait about 20-30 seconds.

I know I had comcast and the local IP on the router was 192.168.1.1... but I switched to ATT and couldn't get the Linksys router to connect to the internet for anything... I think that I finally figured out through trial and error to change the IP to 192.168.2.1 on the router and it worked like a charm (after releasing/renewing the pc's IP address). I can't tell you for certain if that's what I did, because I'm back on Comcast now and changed my router settings back to the way they were...

Another thing you can try: Linksys has a "connection wizard" tool on their website... I think you may be able to run it and let it configure everything for you... maybe. Hope that helps a little at least.

I've seen this a lot with DSL setups. If my suggestion doesn't fix you, Ben is probably right. Connect the modem back to your PC, power cycle the modem, then (after the 20-30 sec wait) open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" then hit enter. If you have something like 192.168.1.x, then your router's default IP address is likely also a 192.168.1.x address and will have to be changed.

Post back if this is your problem and I will talk you through how to change it in your router's firmware.

Hook everything up the way its supposed to work, like in the picture you made. If you have admin access, can you login to the linksys? What does its status page say about its connection to the internet? Does the linksys think its on the internet or not?

Did anything happen to the DSL modem recently? It may need to be in bridge mode to work the way you've drawn it up. If you can confirm the linksys has no internet connection (per the aforementioned), try making sure the linksys has the right login info and if that doesn't do it - call the ISP about getting that DSL modem setup for bridge mode.
