Looking forward to our first shot at getting thumped by a prominent North Shore resident who shall remain nameless. A few eyebrow raising events in week 1 already have me second guessing.

@JCHILLTOPPERS looking forward to 2018, nice to see The Hill on the positive side of the ledger in week 1!

Can someone define and enumerate the posse for me? I feel like it's a straw man for rebuttals to Naz folks.

I gave a timeline of a posse creation and duration sometime last year. It happens when a program is just on the edge of full blown respectability. The blue bloods like MC, ESL, MS never had to go full posse because they always had the respect of the board.

So in the Naz case study, during their early years of becoming consistently great, their fandom was very loud and thin skinnned. Any mention by other posters that seemed dismissive was attacked by the Naz posse. It got to the point that you couldn’t take your Naz friend to a party because every convo turned to Naz this and Naz that. Now that Naz is a consistent state power, their posters are some of the coolest on the board, taking everything with a grain of salt and posting like wise sages (except when Jwar comes in looking for a fight but I enjoy those moments also).

Now the case study of the JCA posse is interesting because it’s a blue blood battling back to its place atop of the Illinois HS FB conversations. You have the old JCA salts, JCHiltopper, USD24, PJJP that always garnered respect from the board during JCA’s up and down years. Now enter Jchill-1, passionate posse engineer driven mad over an algorithm derived +17 line in the SR JCA game and unto us a posse is born. I for one love this J-chill-1 even though I can feel Jaws and PJJP cringing each time the young man posts.

Excellent explanation. It was a solid 6 years of the ‘posse, from the Lasteven McKinney/Mike Williams years, until they won that first title. Since then it has been much easier to enjoy the juggernaut that Naz has become.

So can you tell me who they are?

Sounds to me like it's a strawman...

The posse was first referenced last year...

So from what I can gather is it started with McKinney [so I guess me as I was the one poster], ended around the time jwar came aboard [huh?], and was identified and named two years later.

I'm sorry but y'all are terrible at message boarding sometimes

The naming of social movements or historical eras come after the fact like the 1600s Dutch Tulip Mania. It wasn’t called that at the time until the collapse and the financial history autopsy afterwards.

So the name posse may have derived last year but for the posters that have lived through one, they instantly recognized the reference when developed after-the-fact.

A quick search reveals @pjjp used it in a reference to Naz in 2016. That’s as far back as the search goes. Could’ve been further back that it was first used.

But one could identify the main parties involved and provide a concise logical timeline. That's lacking here, and frankly we can tell this is a HS board from such poor theoretical framework.

IMO, the Insane Naz Posse reached its zenith in the 2015 season. It was comprised of some old time Naz posters (Godfather and Epic) and a new, more zealous crew, such as: Jwar (new at the time), Sportsmom, Coach Weiss etc.

Going way back, the posse name wasn't hung on them (but they exhibited all the traits), the R-B fans during Tim Brasic's senior year in 2001 may have been the original posse. However, they quickly disbanded and turned in their Edgy badges after the 2001 season.

So we ended up all being right though?

The zenith was when @epicbret took the ban after Naz got throttled in the playoffs. The Naz insanity was at the apex when that was going down. Not sure the year and really don't care to go back and figure it out. Agreed that since then the Posse has settled a bit and doesn't act like a bunch of 3 year olds who just found a drum kit.

We need @EdgyTim to dust off some of those threads in the archives. I remember being particularly complimentary at one point and a few of you jumped me immediately. There was no right answer for you guys at that point. All good now, seems like most of you have gone to decaf.

Rock:

I think this is a reasonable post, and one in which you avoid deliberately attacking Naz faithful. I do, however, find it is absent a most vital factor of which drew Nazareth fans into vitriolic exchanges: The harsh and routine criticism to which Nazareth fans were subject.

While I accept your thesis Nazareth fans were keen to the idea Nazareth was improving and establishing its football program among the elite, I found a sizable proportion of the comments directed at Nazareth fans to trespass over a reasonable limits of responsible criticism into territory in which it became outright denunciations of the school, its fans, and members of the forum.

What motivated this gratuitous censure? Envy.

Most of the opprobrium hurled at Nazareth fans was prompted by the realization among ESCC fans Nazareth was no longer the conference weakling and they would now have to contend with a winning program.

In further defense of the school, I think it is also important to note the greatest contributing factor in Nazareth's gradual rise to the upper echelon in high school football after Racki arrived is the immutable truth the school maintained fairly strong boundaries to prevent athletics from appropriating academics.

Quite frankly, Nazareth's administration has no intention of allowing the school to go the way of Driscoll.

I say the school deserves a salute for this.

Ah yes, posse postulation - perchance the paragon of public prose.

Real talk, top posses of all time? Where do these rank? Who do we add?

I'm not sure about all of that. What was the motivation for provoking the posse? It was fun. I especially enjoyed getting Jwar riled up. And, let's face it, it was easy to do. The slightest perceived slight was enough to send the posse into a collective tizzy, as mchsalum suggested.

To be fair, I have to admit the INP no longer rides. They've mellowed. I previously mentioned they've become more like a book club. In fact, I now envison Jwar kicking back and posting in PA with a pipe and smoking jacket.

PJJP,

No where to post in PA, honestly surprising that a solid board like edgy doesn’t exist. Pipe and Smoking jacket is now affordable that I’m out of taxation from Hell, but not who I am. You might get some traction on the smoking jacket with @NazDad.

I recall catching a ban for telling a JCA fan to do something something [deserved, Edgy has a rule on potty mouth], but that wasn't the playoffs. And I caught one for openly criticizing a Naz player [deserved].

Did I curse after PR throttled us and get banned? I seriously remember only two.

Anyway, if Edgy allowed it I would probably curse more. Curses are the most apt descriptor for some folks at times.

I never said I was classy, remember, I was a Southsider who drove an hour to Naz. Ain't no class east of "Touch of Class" Lounge.
