Big week #9 both WN & StE need wins to get in the playoffs, GBN need a wins to prevent going o for the year and both WWS & StN are playing for a share of the conference title should Batavia stub their toe.

** Special request this week rather then just picking the winner write a little something too**

Batavia @ WN
GBN @ Geneva
LP @ StE
WWS @ StN

So you’re saying I have a chance.....if I hit every winner and voodoo and batdogs completely crap the bed. Cool I’m in.

BAT - no disrespect to WN but they were gift wrapped a W last week with 6 turnovers and it was still a tie game in the early 4th quarter. Plus you lost to Geneva (that was for Tain). Batavia is just too much this year.

GEN - hey they’re on a roll and at home against a team that has moved on to basketball or wrestling season.

STCE - Saints at home and fighting to keep their post season hopes alive. If they can solve their 3 game long turnover debacle, they will crush LP to finish strong and gain some badly needed momentum going into the playoffs where they will need every bit of it.

STCN - look I would love to see WWS win this game but the Northstars are really tough at home and they ALMOST shocked Batavia last week in Batavia which is no easy feat. This will be the closest and best battle of week 9 and could go either way. Slight edge to home team.

Batavia - defensive battle in which Batavia makes a few more big plays
Geneva - riding that wave
StE - don't feel comfortable about this, but I think if Chuck E hangs onto the ball it's a clear W
WWS - Seems to play up to the level of the competition, and I feel more comfortable with the level of coaching

Folks, we could see some carnage this week!

Batavia over WN: Batavia secures the outright conference title and a strong seed for the playoffs. The Bulldogs will not play around with this and will strive to get their starters a little rest.

GBN over Geneva: Man, I have a hard time wanting to pick an 0-8 team, but GBN is a proud program and the Vikings seem to be primed for a cooling off (yeah, weird to type that). Hopefully these programs are back to being strong sooner than later.

StE over LP: Losing 3 in a row in weeks 6,7, and 8 is beyond alarming, but Chuckie East needs that 5th win wayyyyyy more than LP needs that 3rd win. StE gets a 18 point victory.

WWS over StN: I have been an StN stan on these boards this season, but with that very tough loss that ended the conference title dreams, I just would think it would be hard for Chuck North to get very fired up for this game. Plus, WWS is playing for a much better playoff matchup than StN would be. WWS by 2 scores

From a distance, seems like a successful inaugural season for the Dukane.

Batavia....7A seems like a wide open class. The repeat will not be easy.
Geneva....will end the season on a positive note and a 3-game win streak.
STE....punches their playoff ticket.
STN...GOTW. Giving them the slight edge at home. Will be a very tough out in 7A.

WN - Obviously biased, but I think our D will continue to hold this week, and I like the additional variety in our offense at last week's game.

GBN - 3 point win for GBN

StE - Turnovers will be under control

StN - Very slight edge as the home team.

Expect a bunch of ugly games this week

- Batavia. Expect a letdown here if this was Vegas I’d take falcons and the points
- Geneva. Will end up the best 3 win team in state
- East. Expect a very low scoring game. Maybe this is the week the saints hold onto the ball
- tigers. Not a good matchup for stars. Expect tigers to run all over them. New qb isn’t good enough to exploit tiger secondary

By some of the picks I see above I can see why some guys are at the bottom or out of it..

Batavia - Don't see how you could pick against them. Best D in the DKC..
Geneva - Yep, Tain picks Geneva
STE - Need it to make playoffs (might be time to change offense, just sayin)
STN - Needs to contain emotion and stay on point.

Lol.....actually I was going to ask him if he wanted to fist fight @all4theillini at my tailgate party on Friday night, would be nice to spice things up a little.

Sight unseen on both combatants - I’m setting the over under on two rounds. Both combatants become so winded and exhausted that they cannot continue the bout and the paramedics have to administer oxygen. While the bout is paused - the tailgaters become unruly and chant “you can’t do that” towards both combatants.

All right fight fans - the last week before the Clown Cup Winner is unveiled as the conference champion!

If I was smart I would use this as my bye week (since I have already qualified) and keep my 87.50% accuracy percentage and let others pick as there are high odds of going 4-1 or 3-2 this week with the matchups. Only a 5-0 week by one of the players at the top can topple voodoo at this stage.

That said - I think to myself - do I want to back into a conference title? Hell no!

This inaugural Dukane season deserves a true conference champion and not some frikkin tie with identical win/loss/percentage or a weakling champion that backs into the title.

I ask myself - what would Ted Williams do? Would he take the last few games off and keep his .400 batting average safe? Or would he play the games to help the team win? Ted didn’t sit it out and neither will Voodoo!!

So onto the picks:

Batavia - too tough and they wear down a rock solid WN defense.

GBN - I am only picking them (against my better judgement) because I just can’t believe that they will go 0-9. When is the last time a GBN team finished 0-9? Never? Maybe when the school first opened? Not sure. But if I was on that team I would not want to be known as a member of the only team to go winless in the history of the program. Hell Metea didn’t finish 0-9 last year or this year. This program is too proud to have this fate befall them.

STE - they run to Dicks and clean them out of stickum and skill player gloves (since they are in the posh area of town and the boosters have all that money per earlier posts or was that North? Anyways it’s not like any part of St Charles would be worrisome to anyone but maybe Providence.). This limits the turnovers this week and gets them a bid into the playoffs.

STN - I will do the transitive matchup analysis that everyone hates (even me). They played Batavia tougher than WWS did plus they are at home. I will go with the home team in a close game.

Bonus pick. Sego vs all4theIllini
The battle royal at Clowns tailgate party ends in a draw with two out of breath combatants taken away by ambulance for oxygen treatments. Clown is accosted by all the tailgaters demanding their 5 bucks back for lack of fight action and no undercard to fall back on. Clowns days as a fight promoter end in humiliation and refunds.

All true. Plus, if you did not make your picks this week, you would be disqualified from the Clown Cup standings. One must pick every week to qualify, if I correctly recall the Clown Cup bylaws.

WN - well I cant pick against the Falcons, never say never. Hope a very decent defense can slow down the Bulldogs and catch them on a not so great night.

GBN - believe GBN is better than the 0-8 record. But Vikings are on a roll. GBN wins if they haven't thrown in the towel.

StE - they rebound to get into the playoffs.

WWS - I think there is some mojo there. Tigers win a close one.

You may be right. There was about a half of a thread discussing the finer points of the subsections of the by laws - but the original week 1 thread said you only needed to pick all of the games in 7 of 9 weeks. I bumped it for reference!!

I have picked all games in 8 of the weeks so far. Therefore if I was a lawyer and a sneaky “play it safe” kinda guy, I could sit back, pop a Zombie Dust and lay in my lawn chair in HHS’s moms basement snacking on spaghettios and meatloaf and watch all the carnage and picks this week!!

But I’m not a lawyer and I definitely don’t want to be “that guy who backed into his conference title!;) And while HHS’s moms basement would be interesting to see in a scary and creepy kinda way - it’s still too scary of a thought to entertain it seriously!

According to the IHSA, GBN went 0-7-1 in '69, and numerous times they have gone 1-8. Technically no 0-9 records though. As far as "backing in" to the championship, I would argue that somebody who picked every week would be able to claim the Cup as well. Similar to BCS era rankings or UCF last year.

Ah...I see the thread and the bylaws. You are correct. So, it was very magnanimous of you to make the picks this week. And what type of example what it have been to all the Voodoo fans out there if you would have backed into the Clown Cup by not making the picks this week?

Exactly! If I would have won that way - it would have been a hollow trophy, kinda like not playing a “major power” for my title according to some posters out there. No one would give me any credit as the master game picker And I would not be able to live down the shame of backing into the title!;)

Batavia- I went back and forth on this game WN will keep this game close but lose a tight one. If the Falcons can some how get to 20 points they will win, I have faith in their defense just not their offense

GBN- The Panthers are better then their record and are playing a ton of juniors, they win the finally and regroup on their way to 6 wins next year.

StE- The wheels seem to have fallen off for the Saints but they have enough to slip by LP

WWS- The Tigers have been improving and should have their full team back tomorrow night, add in the way Prince Lankah ran the ball last week and I like their chances.

As unofficial leader of the Voodoo ‘posse, I would’ve stuck my life-size ‘VoodooTatum21’ Voodoo doll (amazon $149.95) that I keep in my attic with like a really big pin. But then I would forgive him and ask him for a selfie with the Clown Cup and him.

The WN offense is not good. Their fans are frustrated at the play calling, but many point to the lack of suitable personnel and talent on O. Despite how much I'd love to see WN win, I just don't see it occurring. I hope I'm wrong though.

WN has a stud LB who is the younger brother of Eric Mueller.(playing at NW) They are crazy if they don't try to work him in on O. He's far and away their best football player. Coaches need to get over the whole idea of not letting kids play both ways. Or at least be willing to in do or die games like this.
