I’ve seen Duke play in person 16 times total, wish I could say I’ve never seen them lose but it’s happened twice. ‘02 NCAA tourney I saw IU beat them, ‘13 I saw Louisville knock them out too. (Yeah - the game Kevin Ware broke his leg.) 14-2 is pretty lucky though considering every game I’ve seen has either been a conference or NCAA tournament game, no cupcakes. I also saw them win it all in ‘10 and ‘15.
Aside from seeing them play games in person, I’ll tell you what was pretty damn cool — In 2010 that Friday before the Saturday / Monday final 4 games, there was an open practice (1 hr per team.) Free, no assigned seats. Sit where’s available. Duke was the last practice. Being that it was Indianapolis, Butler is the local school and MSU had a lot of fans too. Once they practiced, Lucas Oil nearly cleared. I moved way up and watched Duke practice from the FRONT ROW. Being close enough to actually hear all their voices and chatter authentically rather than via TV or microphone is pretty sweet.
That’s good stuff. I would recommend Maui for a similar reason, at least back when I went. It’s a small gym, the players were around the arena before and after games (got Duhon’s autograph on a jersey for my younger brother), and you’ll also likely see guys from all of the teams around the more popular places to eat and shop.
