"Duke welcomes boxer Floyd Mayweather, who has history of violence against women"

Outstanding journalism at work again with this headline.

Can't argue against any news outlet for trying to sell papers. I mean its not like its "fake news." OFC

If you check dukes social media, they sure weren’t shy about showing that he was there and our players and coaches were stoked to be seen with him.

I don't follow boxing much anymore, but isn't Mayweather known as one of the best boxers ever, pound for pound? It would seem that alone would be quite impressionable for teenagers. By Duke welcoming him doesn't mean in any way they condone any of his past transgressions.

Right. But bad journalism is still bad journalism....no matter who is trying to sell it.

Besides, the old print rags are losing. There's a reason they're dying off around the country. The biggest reason is probably the constant technology battle, but integrity is another.

Where did the Duke welcomes him surface? If he paid for his ticket he's like any other person to come in and see the game. It makes it sound like the Duke team welcomed him. If Duke provided him the tickets as complimentery its a different story. I bet the Duke coaching staff didnt even knokw he was there until the rest of us did. I didnt even recognize him until his name was mentioned. I'm sure there have been lots of questionable characters that have attended Duke games. To me this is just a petty act by some anti - Duke fans looking for something. Ridiculas. OFC

Well inserting "integrity" here is an interesting strategy. No offense, but putting journalistic integrity up against that of a high profile repeat convicted offender of assault charges against women is a complete mismatch.

We're not going to have any butts in those seats if we start screening out people that have made mistakes. When he starts punching people in the stands then we'll have a problem.

OFC

Dirt I suppose its makes a difference if you have a loved one or friend, etc who was the victim of such senseless and cowardly behavior.

Sorry buddy, cant buy notion we'll EVER have a problem filling up Cameron, at least while the GOAT is at the helm....OFC

My point was that no one is perfect, and there are probably people in those stands that would make Mayweather look like a saint. I don't condone what he did, but this is a country that believes that people that pay for their crimes are allowed a 2nd chance. No problem, we just see this differently.

I never mentioned his acts were petty. I know what he is and you know I wouldn't never condone something like that. Look at what I said. He bought the tickets. They weren't given to him. Duke as an institution had nothing to do with him being in attendance. What was Coach K supposed to do have security have him escorted out. I doubt Coach K even knew he was there until after the fact. This article was written for one purpose only and that was to put Duke in dim light and get people to react which they have done. OFC

Like Dirt said, we see it "differently." Look at what the article said- Mayweather and his entourage were welcomed to a place in Cameron after the game NORMALLY OFF LIMITS to other paying customers. I wasnt talking about his ticket purchases, just the fawning over him, and special privileges afforded post game....Sky you, me or Dirt wouldnt have been allowed in that area of CIS.....OFC

Goodness people. Everyone who is anybody flock to Floyd whenever he is around. Wherever he is, he has a camera in his face and is surrounded by stars. He’s a free man, and he came to watch the greatest show in college basketball.

We should write about everyone else that hangs with him too. I mean Magic Johnson went and said hi to him at the all star game last night. Oh but wait, Magic had sex with thousands of girls and got aids. Should probably stay away from him too.

He was there cheering (his home state) Arkansas. We were immaterial to that decision.

And K said AT THE TIME ON A ONCE SUNDAY NITE TALK show he had, Clinton should have been there
as POTUS to support ALL 4 TEAMS! I concur!

Idc care about magic or others. I care about my all time favorite program which has routinely set the standard and done things the right way. If he has a ticket I have no issue. But for our program, players and coaches to fawn over a man who beat the mother of his children. 4 different accounts over 10 years of him beating women. This is not a man who lost his temper once and yelled at his wife people.

Not my point. My point is you probably have no idea about it before you read that article. You’re reacting just how people want you to. It’s a big deal because it’s now and it’s at Duke. My point is the rest of the world has pretty much accepted it and moved on. He’s a FREE MAN. And the greatest boxer in the history of the sport. Are people going to get that upset if Ray Lewis comes and watches a game and meets the team afterwards? I’m sure Floyd wasn’t like, hey Zion! You jump so high man! You should get a couple girls pregnant and slap em around a little!

Man 2019 America is soft.

Not wanting to be around men who repeatedly beat women makes me soft? Okay. Continue to presume you know me.

People do bad things, no one is perfect, and we as humans tend to label people imperfections like we have a right to judge them. Wrong is wrong. Some people learn from mistakes and some people are just monsters all together. Who are we to say Mayweather is peace of crap because of what he did years ago. If he hasn't had any reports of it lately, maybe he did his time and has changed, but regardless the man should get to enjoy life as we all do. And I say this as someone whose dad beat his .on when he was just a toddler. I dont label my dad to this day for something he did 40 years ago, he regrets it, learned from it, and Im sure he still carries the guilt. I love my dad to death and respect the man he is today, but both my parents have remarried and moved on, it's sad media and some people can't forgive and move on, I sure am glad the Lord does when we ask His forgiveness.

Till this day he has denied he did anything at all, despite his own son telling the account of seeing his mother being kicked in front of him.

I’ll say this the last time and I’m done with this thread forever. I’m totally fine with the man living his life. But for our program to act like he’s this great guy and this board to act like, “ come on now, it’s not so bad.” Is all ridiculous. If he did once, if even did it twice and came out and said sorry, I could work with it. For example, I’m way more understanding of Ray Rice, whose shown way more remorse.

But a guy who with 4 different cases over 10 years of beating women with no true remorse? Who are we sticking up for?

I’m out.

In all seriousness, when I seen him on tv, I was like " oh wow Money Mayweather is at the game sitting next to Quinn". I never once thought of him as a wife beater. I honestly never knew about it, as I'm sure there are many who haven't.

The high and mighty have surfaced on this thread. Any comments about how Duke has handled these situations in the past? Because they haven’t al has handled them so eloquently in house.

Haven’t seen any pics of him with K. Only ex players, right?

The over reaction here is comical.

You seem to be ignoring some serious transgressions by Duke in the past to Crete your own little romantic novel.

Seems to me, the criticisms here were fairly even handed. Really didn't detect any "over reacting" or such. Didn't read the article. Did it criticize ESPN? Did it criticize Vitale for his fawning and boxing routine with Mayweather?

The Great Mayweather. Man if our guys could have the focus and work ethic of that guy every night we would kill everyone. Most fundamentally sound fighter ever. Love to watch him. This article is stupid though. I’m sure there are at least 100 people in those stands that have done what he has done and maybe worse. Man came to enjoy a game and people bringing up his past to get clicks. That’s pathetic.

Why does this country hate Floyd so much? He's from Detroit, won Olympic Gold, spends his billions in country, is great with kids and loves his fans. Sure, he was obnoxious at one point... around 10 years ago, but he's clearly a completely different person.

Isn't that country about second chances, if nothing else?

We are willing to forgive Mark Wahlberg, a complete scumbag , but not this guy?

The Great Mayweather beats women. Man if our guys could have the focus and work ethic of that guy every night we would kill everyone, including women. Most fundamentally sound fighter ever, fine-tuned against women. Love to watch him (between beatings of women, presumably). This article is stupid though, because I'd rather ignore that he beats women. I’m sure there are at least 100 people in those stands that have done what he has done (beat women in front of their children) and maybe worse, like not being a great boxer. Man who beats women came to enjoy a game and people bringing up his past beating women and likely present beating women and likely future beating women to get clicks. Beating women: That’s pathetic.

This is America. All jokes aside it is still the greatest country in the world and I love it. Mayweathet isn't the best example of a model citizen most of us can agree on that. But him being at a Basketball game acting friendly with players isnt an offense to Duke or the kids.

Mayweather has always been a flashy guy, cars, money, women he shows off. That catches these young kids eyes and attracts them. I dont fault any young man that wants to sit next to a guy worth over half a billion dollars and take pictures. Most know of his past mistakes and his transgressions but what's done is done, Cook and those young men seem like good guys, they know the difference in right and wrong. I dont hold any of this against them or the University.

Mayweather will one day have to answer to his mistakes in front of the highest authority, it is not our place to judge a man, specially after he has already been convicted and "served" out his time (even if his punishment would of been like a life of luxury for most).
