After watching the Duke-UofL game, I firmly believe UK can beat Louisville. I didn't at the start of season, but if our defense continues to improve, I think we can beat Louisville. We have 3 GOOD running backs in Williams, Snell and Kemp, and Louisville's line looked weak against the run.
Our QB can also run if they try to plug the middle, and I believe he has the speed to get to the edge.
I know a lot of you will say,"NO WAY."
Today, Clemson had to go to overtime to beat NCState, who was beaten earlier in the season by East Carolina. I believe we can wear UofL's OL down with our running backs.
I would like to hear some of the comments, both ways. I know some of the naysayers will always say NO WAY!
No, I'm not crazy, but some of you think I am. I just believe were starting to jell as a team. At least I hope we are.

We played Alabama in their backyard and lost by 28 points. Today mighty vols in Knoxville lost to the same team by 39 points. Anything is possible as far as
playing any team, therefore, I will buy your theory with reservation.

I agree we have a grat shot at 6 wins. Uk has the speed at backer to make things tough on jackson. The most encouraging thing to me is this entire oline returns besides Toth. Stallinga and stenberg are athletic and huge. We ran the
Ball down a stout vandy dline with no threat of a pass. If Johnson can be just decent throwinf we can win any remaining game

The Duke game showed me that even if we had the lead up at Papa sh*tter stadium.... forward progress that wasnt will negate a big play for us or running into the kicker penalty will somehow be upgraded to a roughing the kicker penalty .... ETC. That game proved to me the ACC refs will not allow an SEC UK team to beat precious ACC UL at their home place.

Sure you could beat UofL. You could also lose by 50. Welcome to college football.

Still a long ways off before that game is played, as these teams still have time to get considerably better or worse.

Louisville's defense didn't do poorly. Giving up 14 points and less than 250 total yards is a good performance. That game was tight at the end because Louisville's offense wasn't as efficient as normal, made several mistakes, in limited opportunities because Duke done a great job milking clock.

The 9 minute 4th qtr TD drive by Duke following Louisville's fumble inside 10 was executed to absolute perfection, and gave them a late hope for an upset in a game they otherwise had no shot of winning. Hats off to Duke & Coach Cutliffe for executing a solid game plan as a huge dog.

We have to be able to stop Jackson to win. We didn't stop him once last year and he is considerably better this year. I honestly do not think we tackled him one time last year. He either scored, ran out of bounds, or slid before before being tackled on every play.

And so it begins, the crazy talk from this board. If Lamar Jackson was hurt, Kentucky might have a chance at winning, otherwise its pretty much a loss. Kentucky's chance is less than 1 in 20, if that good. The game to watch is the Missouri game on the road, win that one and Kentucky may just go bowling.

Give Duke credit for playing a great game they should have won. On the other hand, UofL was down after the Clemson loss. The result was UofL did what it does best and pulled out the win.

This in no way means UK has an open door to upset the Cardinals. UK will very likely play UofL quite well, but logic tells us Louisville's more experienced team with a surprisingly talented and effective QB has the advantage.

However, on any given day....

Duke is better than UK

BlueTick2, What do you base that on? I don't believe they have played each other. What you should say is, I think Duke is better then UK. Unless they play each other, you just have an opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

Just watching college football, playing football and coaching football.
Your trying to make the case if two teams don't play you can't determine which team is best.

Can you tell Alabama is not better than say Kansas?

And if you haven't caught on yet, this is a message board that is 99% opinion just like yours.

I have no problem with that roughing call. Will be called same 9 times out of 10. I do have an issue with the fumble recovery that was taken away grow Duke.

Ball control on offense limits Jackson's touches. Playing 1 - 2 spies on the QB limits scrambling. It adds pressure to the DBs but you have to pick your poison and mix it up.

I have said all year. UL is very average at most positions other than Lamar Jackson. Their OL is very average ...at best. And their D is very solid, but not without weakness. A team with ball control offense has a very good shot at beating UL. They are a big play team. lat year I am convinced we never prepared for Jackson. If you remember Bolin started and at that point Jackson had been benched. It was thought that Bolin gave them the best Chance to win. Then he threw 100 interceptions in the first half and in cam Jackson. Kind of the reverse of the year before when Bonnafon strted and got hurt. Then Bolin came in and it looked like we didn't prepare for him. In both games we got out coached. But dominated first half.

What he said ^^^

All props to Cutliffe and Duke for "neutralizing" the Cards offense. They clearly got a bad call on Hikutini's non-fumble. I don't know about roughing vs running into the kicker but there was clear contact on the kicker. I have yet to see it on film. On rules that have an "either/or" consequence, if there is doubt, by rule, the officials enforce the more severe penalty.

Duke's play aside, the Cards shot themselves in the foot (twice) in the 3rd quarter on a RZ fumble one series and a procedure penalty the next series that wiped out a big completion and another scoring opportunity. Those errors almost certainly kept the score at 17-7 vice 31-7. Duke's game plan was fine but as the score gets wider the game gets more out of reach. Duke did not want to ever trail by more than a couple of scores.

Peace

So duke is better than uk? Is it their big 13-7 win over army or their 0-3 conference record,3-4 overall record or just because they played louisville close? Sounds like sour grapes towards kentucky from someone who has been around football their whole life

It was a pretty good post, except for the sort of personal attack at the end. Duke, this year, does not have a good team. They were a 35 point dog in the game for a reason. IF they are better than us, it's by a very, very slim margin, and that 0 fer conference record this year suggests that it's not even that.

You think we will not be at least a 35 point dog to UL?
They are both, Duke and UK, pretty bad teams.
When both are that bad, which one is worse if kinda irrelevant.

We didn't even start as a 35 point dog to Alabama. Per the computers, now, we'd be a 26 point dog, which is embarrassing. However, if we play well over the next few games, and if Louisville plays like they did against Duke, then that line will fall....by a lot. It will still be double digits, almost certainly, barring a major injury to Jackson.

I agree most people can tell Alabama is better then Kansas, and I never doubted Alabama was better then UK, but I'm not sure Duke is better then UK, or Miss. State is better then UK.
I don't consider myself a rookie. I played football in the Air Force, and I've watched a couple of games. I'm still learning that I don't know everything.

And better coached. Last season BC, Wake and Pitt all showed how to slow Jackson
down but it was like our coaches were unaware of those games.
Odd you say that. Bc imagine if Cutcliffe was here. He didn't win 6 games at Duke until year 5. Shoulda fired him right? Not like progress was apparent. He only won 3 games in year 3 and 4, less than his first 2 years. And he had prior HC experience.

People keep making that comparison if Cutcliffe were here that people would have wanted him fired. What you all fail to mention is the three years prior to him being the head coach at duke they only won 2 games in 3 seasons.

What the duke game shows perfectly is that in the game with Otis last year if the offense would have had drives like duke had we would have won...game will always be a head scratcher

Defense is better but still not likely to stop Jackson and Co. for 60 minutes but limiting possessions is 100% the key to having a chance and we are starting to be built for that. Just need to add the missing piece of a good short passing game to move the chains and take some pressure off the run game, then with a turnover hear or there it's certainly doable.

And stoops took over a team that had two wins. One against the worst fbs team in the country (I mean Miami did finish 0-12 ) and a mid level 500 fbs team. We were really really bad talent wise. The U.K. Team took over was as bad as any power five school has ever been in. Those are facts.

I looked it up and got wrong year for our two wins. We beat mac team Kent state (Miami was stoops first year). One interesting note we won two games, and lost only two games by Keven points or less (wku and Georgia). While duke who won one game the year before cutcliff took over beat a power five team in northwestern on the road, and lost five other games by 11 pts or less. (Miami,Inc, and Virginia were part of those).

Believe it or not the team cutcliff took over at duke was probably better than that stoops inherited. But he gets five years where stoops doesn't. Cutcliff would of been on a hotter seat than stoops for fan outrage if he were hired here with those results. At least with stoops you can see night and day difference in talent than when he got here.

Yeah, joker didn't leave much talent. What I'm saying is Cutcliffe took over a very difficult job. The records before he got there were 2-9, 1-10, 0-12, and 1-11.
