The irony of Duke getting the higher rated players, but the Kentucky guys almost always ended up better NBA players.

Zion and Herro went in the same draft and I was surprised to find many NBA fans would rather have Herro on their team. No one would’ve expected that going into the 2019 draft.

But that’s neither here nor there, their performances in the NBA never helped us win anything while they were here especially after 2015.
Yeah it is ironic that our guys have a much better track record in the NBA. Personally Duke having better recruiting classes and less success in titles won doesn't make me feel better.

My hands are full worrying about how our program has declined since 2015 . My concern is titles or at least FF runs.

I felt like we were the best team entering the tournament in ‘17.

I thought whichever team won that E8 game in Memphis was the champion. And it was. Should have been us.

I don’t know if we were the best in ‘19 entering the tourney. Losing in overtime to Auburn ended the speculation.

I thought ‘20 was poised for a big run. Quickley was SEC POY but Maxey was better by that point. That was a very good team at the end of the season. We just never got to see.

We really didn’t “decline”. Except for ‘21 we had a contender every year after 2015.

Maybe not ‘16?

If our metric is banners or FF then 10 years is a long drought/decline.Not making the Sweet 16 since 2019, a 9 win season and 3 years of getting bounced in the 1st or 2nd round isn't decline?

Pope is responsible for his results and the decisions he makes but let's not pretend he was given a program with recent successes.

Jon Scheyer is 38 years old, he is following the GOAT and it’s his FIRST head coaching job. He is only in his fourth year.

In that short period of time he is:

94-22 overall
48-12 in the ACC
1 Elite 8 appearance
1 Final Four appearance
2 ACC Tournament Championships
1 ACC regular season Championship

The preceding are all FACTS. These aren’t predictions and rivalry team fan’s hopes.

I don’t know what Duke fans you are talking to but that kind of start by a young coach in the aforementioned circumstances is nothing short of OUTSTANDING. You know it, I know it and THEY know it.

The fact that you are comparing him to Calipari (66 yrs old) and K (78 yes old) who both are Hall of Fame coaches with multiple stops and decades of experience speaks volumes.

As for everything else you are talking about regarding the future of Duke during the conference expansion era is not even worth discussing. You don’t know whats going to happen, I don’t know what’s going to happen regarding things that are probably 5 years away, IF AT ALL.

The ACC has completely sucked *** the last two or theee years. I’m not sure how good it is this year as, like most people, I don’t pay too much attention to it but it’s been historically bad recently. Anyway - I’ll bet you 1,000 dollars Duke doesn’t win the championship this year with its like 10th straight #1 recruiting class. Feel free to tellme if you’re in or not and we can get each others Venmo’s

You can tell when a conference is ready to improve by seeing which coaches have been hired.
In the last decade the SEC has put more effort into making the league more than UK and flavor of the season team.
Bringing in Oats, Pearl, Beard, Barnes, Miller, Wade, even Cal going to Arkansas has greatly improved the league.
The ACC is beginning to see that and realize they too need to hire better coaches. The hiring of Wade at NC State is them starting that change. Lucas at Miami, Louis at Florida State is an up and coming coach with NBA credentials.

We’ll see. The reality is that the Big Ten and SEC teams pocket about 10 or more million a year each year than any other conference teams. You cannot get in 8 figure annual deficits versus your opponents in really any category of anything and remain competitive long term. Those two conferences can afford to pay their coaches so much more than other conferences that eventually they dominate, which is basically already starting to happen.
