Every year this day comes, and every year I post one of these.
The lead up to this game is awful. I’m gonna be nervous all day and this is gonna wreak havoc on my digestion system. Ugh. I get too emotionally invested in Duke, but that’s what makes the wins all the sweeter.

Good God I hope not! If it’s that close throughout, I’m not going to sleep tonight.
They will try to get Zion in foul trouble for sure. No doubt hof coach roy williams has cemented this into their minds. Expect flops . That is vintage tar heel basketball and you are correct. The officials should know and understand this. It's not gonna stop hof coach roy williams from staying in their ears by saying watch #1 . He's grabbing, pushing, holding and driving the lane out of control. In fact he will be pointing out Tre, RJ and Cam. That's basketball. The biggest concern of mine is their transition defense. After we make a basket or even we miss we need to get back down the court in defensive mode. It's no telling how many points they score each game with that and have been doing it forever. OFC

I hope you have a safe deployment. My nephew in law has been deployed to Afghanistan since last June but he’s about to come home. He flew from Afghanistan to Kuwait last Friday I believe and was supposed to be there for 3-5 days before flying to Texas today I believe and he should be home from Texas sometime around the beginning of March.

I think there will be two big challenges tonight:
1) Can UNC keep the final margin under single digits, and
2) Can this old fart stay awake long enough to see the end.
I started a new shift at work yesterday that has me waking up at 4:30 am and not getting home until 7:00 pm. I didn't even see 9:00 last night
Game plan is to power nap when I get home so I can see the game!

It’s that time of year again so I’ll give my thoughts on the game and my prediction for whatever it’s worth.
These matchups aren’t rocket science. Carolina knows what’s coming and the only question is how do you minimize it? We need to hit a good number of threes and push the ball whenever we can. Coby needs to play with control. The big deciding factor could be turnovers. We haven’t fared well in that department this year and duke makes you pay when you’re careless with the ball. There is no one on the roster that can stop Zion one on one, but if you can make Barrett take bad shots or if Reddish is off, I think we have a shot.
I also think Roy would be wise to play some zone, but he will at least start off playing zone.
Overall, UNC has not had a good track record this decade when they don’t have the clearly superior team going into Cameron. 2012 and 2016 are the only times we’ve come in there and won. It’s a hard place to play for a reason.
I think Carolina can keep it close but if we were to come away with a win there tonight it would possibly be a bigger upset than ruining Redick’s senior night.

I think we "might" cover the spread... but there is no way I would take that bet. The rivalry it seems most of the time has been close. I think it starts off close but then Duke puts the pedal to the medal and doesn't look back in the 2nd half.

I think the tone is set early. I think Duke plays tonight with a lot of joy. Biggest surprise will be Jones and Bolden.

I hope Zion shatters a backboard tonight that puts us up 20 and the cheater fans have to watch while a new backboard is installed.
It would only be shattered because he's so fat and exceeds the weight limit of the glass
UNC was ranked #13 at that game, so that was the bigger upset. And Duke was far and away the #1 team even though they lost to FSU the game before (their only 2nd loss on the entire season). This year, Duke shares the upper echelon with a few teams...UNC not far behind.

Yeah I’d actually agree the gap is closer than it was in 2006. That squad was very good but having Zion and Barrett compared to Redick and Barrett is a massive upgrade.
You mentioned on THR these games, no matter which team is objectively better, tend to be close until the end. I think that’ll be the case tonight until around 3-4 minutes left. The rivalry brings out the best in both typically.
Best rivalry in sports, period. We all know these games have a rich history of being close, regardless of talent disparities or home court advantages..... That being said, today I am throwing that history and logic out of the window.
We are absolutely lethal in transition and if Carolina wants to play their usual quick tempo / high-possession game we WILL make them pay just like we made UK pay the first game of the year. Cameron will be rockin’ tonight, Reddish is a stud in big moments and they don’t have anyone who’s enough of a grown *** man to deal with Zion.
