Why were we man to man on Reed? Is it possible at all to have had bracket coverage on their best receiver, maybe force Thorne to toss it somewhere else? Do we ever play zone? Just spitballing here...

I had a hard time seeing our guys due to the snow. Maybe our guys couldn’t see one another and couldn’t tell if anyone had coverage.

🤔
Pry should have told 2 white jersey dudes to cover that #1 dude wearing the green jersey....it may have worked.

You have to protect against the run.

Covering him man to man was questionable enough but that man cover him with his back to him may have been a step too far.

The crazy thing is even before that play I looked at my brother and said.. They're gonna score... It is as if you just know what can go wrong will go wrong. Those first two defensive possessions yesterday looked almost as if they did not even practice this past week!

you could have said Cover 69...I wold have agreed with you. No clue what Cover 4 means...
It means we had four guys deep each taking away a quarter of the field, and three guys playing zones underneath. The giveaways are that everyone’s eyes were on the QB, and no one followed the TE in motion.

There isn’t a defense we could have played that would forced a tougher pass, but their guys made the plays to beat it.

I am hoping this is a “positive” question/comment. I couldn’t see the whole field and, like Bob, couldn’t identify the PSU players because of the snow. So, question….was Dixon in for Porter? Meaning, was the staff fearful of another PI? It was a “perfect” pass, Dixon had pretty good coverage. If the pass was a little highper, or a little lowper, it is probably incomplete. All year, the other teams seemed to make the “big plays”, at the worst times (TE crossing routes against Iowa and Michigan come to mind, Lee fumble). We just never seemed to make (or stop) that play this year.

We were subbing liberally that whole drive…neither Porter or TCF were on the field. It was King and Dixon.

IIRC…Castro Fields bounced off a tackle which would have stopped a drive earlier. On that same play, a couple of others missed also.

You guys have a lot of criticism for a well defended pass on a perfectly thrown ball.
I’ve been mocking trying to break the pass up backwards but if I’m being completely honest, he was in that position because the WR pushed off and got him off balance. It really should have been offensive PI.

We got them earlier in the year vs Wisky and Auburn. Once the Iowa loss happened, this team cratered. The $85M Motivator went to work and put together a magical solution to halt the downward spiral.
