I'm sure this thread will get locked or something but I wanted to start a discussion on our athletic supply company and none of the other threads seemed appropriate.

From 2009 to now we have paid out of pocket for our jerseys and gear. They've continued togive us rehashed Arkansas/A&M merchandise. Michigan, UCLA, and Notre Dame all have the same supplier we have, and none of them have the same scheme as we have. Why couldn't they retrofit one of their uni's with our colors with a few tweeks here and there instead of doing it with identical A&M unis?

Adidas is a major improvement over Russell, but it's a second tier company to Nike, who we claim we can't have... yet USM has one of the worst athletic budgets in the entire Division 1 family and uses Nike...

If we can't bury the hatchet over the Jackie Sherrill/Oregon/helmet drama from 10 years ago we're going to continue to accept crap from suppliers. I don't even care if they never let us use the other logo ever again, they make better stuff and have the foresight not to give a team a jersey IDENTICAL to one in-confererence DIVISION rival.

If Maryland has marketability, so do we. And yes, I realize they're Under Armour.

If I understand correctly, we're the only ones that are actually paying, or have been paying, yet they spend less time and effort on our **** than all of the teams that aren't paying for theirs? Sounds about right

Yes. And to make it worse, if you walk around campus or anything, Adidas is everywhere. Every single person in the stadium on saturday nights is wearing a $80 sideline shirt. All the t-shirts they give the players for training and what not is Adidas. Barnes & Noble's is filled with Adidas. Why are we rewarding them making us pay with monopolizing Adidas gear in our stores? They make so much money off of our fanbase.

And then they reward us with Texas A&M's jerseys.

Is anybody contacting Stricklin? Maybe we all should. Our uniforms are remarkably similar to A&M's and we're the SEC charter member.

But Nike was outfitting Oregon with shoulder pads that hooked up to some cooling system or some **** for the 2003 game. Sherrill found out and got pissed we weren't provided the same thing (since we were still with Nike). If this isn't accurate, let me know.

Without testing out the open market first, all the while the Nike deal was pretty sweet.

But OM gets 1.65 Mill next year in wholesale gear, and 2.05 million in wholesale gear every year after that until 2019.

I just think it's unacceptable that we continue to use Adidas when they financially screw us over and then give us new jerseys that no one likes AND look like Texas A&M's. If Texas A&M wasn't in the picture, I wouldn't care as much. I just don't understand how a company of their level can't understand that they have to make 2 entirely different uniforms.

I'd kill to receive $2,000,000 a year in Nike gear rather than $300,000 worth of Adidas.

Again, I would like to point out that Adidas is a German company, and Germans have never done anything good for Mississippi State University.

I guess I am failing to realize how our uniforms and Texas A&M's uniforms are the same? Yes, we have the exact same colors, and only 2 colors to work with. due to that, no matter what you do they are going to look similar. I am not saying that I like Adidas, but I am curious as to what they could do differently? To say you don't like the uniforms is completely different than saying they are the same as A&M's.<div>
</div><div>I am sure we are not paying for our uniforms. Thats ridiculous to insinuate of an SEC school unless you have proof.

w/ their super jersey that they only give to top programs. maybe because of all the hype that year. I remember the jersey looked basically the same but supposedly was made out of better material. I personally like our russell jerseys the best because the stripes were diagonal and not vertical on the shoulder.

I understand the colors, and you can only do so much with colors, but why the stripe on OUR jerseys? They have a reason to put one on A&M's. They have less than zero reason to put one on ours.

The two uniforms will always resemble each other, but leaving the stripe off the shoulder would have done wonders. Instead, we're both maroon and white teams with Adidas uniforms who both have stripes on the shoulders and arms... 1 for no reason.

+1 for under armour here. No other teams that are with them have the same color scheme, they could do something unique for us. </p>

What is the reason for A&M to have stripes on their shoulders? Their historical uniforms don't have stripes on the shoulders. In fact, I bet if you look at many of the Nike, outside of the ones that have historical uniforms, they probably use similar design techniques for different schools. Again, I am not saying that I like Adidas, and yet I would rather be Nike, but to say that us and A&M have the same uniforms, outside of the color, is simply inaccurate.<div>
</div><div>In fact, if you look at this picture, you will see that their 1990's uniforms, when they were Nike, were much more similar to our then than their new uniforms will be. Is that Decenzo Miller?</div><div>

we both have shoulder stripes from the neck to the elbow is enough to make them look "the same". This is compounded because we are now in the same division of the same conference. Adidas could have avoided this simply by giving us the '86 style sleeve stripes. Nery a person would have bitched that we looked alike if that had gone down. Thats how you differentiate two schools with the same color. Give them completely different styles. That did not happen.

/For the record... I like the new uni
//My ONLY complaint is the a&m tie in.

Don't buy any other argument. Our coaches also get much better deals from them than Nike. The main reason we switched from Nike to anything else is Nike wouldn't sponsor anything other than football for us. Russell and Adidas did the whole she-bang.

17ED UP. They gave us the same uniforms as another school in our same conference. Are you kidding me. Give me Chilli's grey design any day. I was hyped about the new uniforms, but it looks like we could have bought them off the shelf and stiched MSU on the front.<div>
</div><div>I really like the uniforms, but come on man. Same design as a fellow division team.</div><div>
</div><div>I would have rathered them be terrible like Maryland's last year. You didn't have to have a close up of the players chest to tell which team you were watching.</div><div>

We have had the same jerseys as Arkansas the past few years? I don't see too big of a deal with the uniforms being similar to TAMU besides the fact that we are both maroon and white.

If I remember right Oregon had to give it to state as well but there was not enough time to do so. So neither team had them. It really did not matter since they wipped our *** anyways. The owner of Nike did get pissed off but I don't know if this was the reason why the contract changed. Surely the guy can sperate personal feelings from business.</p>

You can try to sell that "Adidas hooks us up." But it is absolutely wrong. In the current contracts, Nike holds OM at SIX TIMES the value than Adidas holds US.

The current agreement between MSU and Adidas, which took effect in ‘09 and runs through 2014, is admittedly below market: $330,248 a year in wholesale products, with the opportunity to purchase more at the wholesale price. MSU and adidas remain in an exclusive negotiating window for the rest of this year, and AD Scott Stricklin is in pursuit of a market correction. The school is currently spending $500,000 a year out-of-pocket to fill the rest of its equipment needs.

For reference, contracts pay:
State $1.5 mil over 5 years(Adidas)
OM $13.9 mil over 7 years(NIKE)
NC State $7 mil over 4 years(Adidas)
Kansas $26.7 mil over 8 years(Adidas)
Indiana $21 mil over 8 years(Adidas)
Alabama $30 mil over 8 yrs(NIKE)
Auburn $27.45 mil over 7 yrs(UA)
Michigan $66.5 mil over 8 yrs(Adidas)

http://m.sportsbusinessda...s-Nike.aspx?hl=Nike&sc=0

I want it to go up for auction, where we will get $2-3 mil/yr from the high bidder, whoever that may be.

It was renegotiated between 08 and 09, and Greg Byrne had bigger problems on his hands at the time... So, I can't and don't blame Adidas for lowballing us at that point. But it was still below our value, and our value has skyrocketed in the past few years.

How much money does everyone think Adidas has made on us with the surging merchandise sales?

I think they were basically just fans with mist blown through them, but maybe they had something that was supposed to make it work better in the humidity?

The heat and humidity was supposed to be a big advantage for us, and to make matters worse, they only offered them to Oregon, even though both schools were under contract with NIke.

We basically told them they couldn't hook them up. Not sure what justification we used, but I heard that we claimed we were concerned about security and the potential that they could be used in a terrorist plot. I assume that was a joke, but it would be awesome if that was true.

And said when his son was being recruited Ole Miss flaunted the fact that Nike hooks their players up with a whole lot more gear than Adidas hooks us up with. Said it was a pretty enticing allure and I believe him. We need a better deal, but I understand why ours is ****** because after 08 we were ******.

is doing/selling with every team and in every sport. It's their Crazy Light AdiZero shoes and these shoes are POPULAR. Didn't you notice all the college basketball teams with the 3 stripes on the back of their shoes including us? I'm surprised our pants, tops and helmet don't have 3 stripes on them also. Nike has the swoosh and Adidas has the stripes. I like Adidas, just wish we had a better deal with them.

Under Armour is crap. Might as well strap cardboard to out players' feet. I'd rather have Adidas if we can't have Nike, but not if they're screwing us over financially and putting us on the shelf to teams like A&M and Arkansas.

Can anyone find the details of USM's deal with Nike? I'm on an iPhone so I can't really research.
