Because Mitch only makes good hires for the women's teams.
But he hired Elsy and she was awful...

Barnhart's pattern for major sports goes bad hire then forced to make appropriate hire.

Gillespie - Cal
ELZY - brooks
Joker - Stoops
Pope - (dusty may or nate oats) LOL

Now let's not talk about mitch contracts because once we have a good coach, he gives them some ridiculous contract, so when they fall off we are stuck with them, see Cal and Stoops.

He took Florida Atlantic to the final four. He would have been a great coach here. He had just been hired by Michifan before the UK job came open. Mitch wouldn't dare try to go after a guy at a new job 2 weeks. And I see May makes 3.75 a year but Pope gets more? Interesting based on prior resume and results. UK over paid yet again

He listened to the old timers and they wanted the Pitino days. They got the Gillespie days with more talent than what Gillespie had
Pat pat never really let UK get down to bad back then. He wasn’t a super star or anything but kept us afloat

I didn’t watch the game but saw the score and was shocked. Gonzaga was actually -2.5 favorite before the game. Is Michigan that good or did Gonzaga not show up?

Gonzaga is a very good team. They were just off-kilter, discombobulated or whatever word you want to use. These kind of games generally happen to every team. It's often a matchup issue, right? I believe Michigan will run into a matchup issue or two itself with it's Center & two-PF lineup. But I sure would have loved it if UK could have convinced Lendeborg to come here.

Yaxel would’ve been amazing here and it’s sickening it came down to us or UM.

Is what is is.

May is turning out to be a seemingly good coach. His FF run with FAU may not have been a fluke.

Lots of ball left to be played but UN right now is hot and that does irk me a bit. I don’t care for them.

Luckily they only have one title.

Michigan appears to be the real deal. They trashed Auburn the previous game. My guess would be they have very competitive NIL funds. The got the UAB guy from the portal who's a significant piece.

They got the Gillispie days with less talent.

From a recruiting standpoint, it’s really not close. Gillispie brought in pieces like Daniel Orton, Patrick Patterson, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Josh Harrellson, Alex Legion, and A.J. Stewart. A lot of the guys he landed ended up being instrumental in Cal’s early success. Sure, his recruiting eventually veered way off course with targets like Dakotah Euton, Konner Tucker, Dominique Ferguson (who, if I remember right, was at least a 5-star), and even signing an 8th grader. The wheels were definitely starting to wobble soon after, but he came out of the gate hot.

Top to bottom, BCG’s rosters had more talent than what we’ve got this season. Pope deserves some grace since he’s building almost entirely from the ground up, but BCG still had legit recruits to pair with Tubby holdovers like Derrick Jasper, Jodie Meeks, Ramone Harris, and Ramel Bradley. When you stack it all up, it really highlights just how disastrous that hire was and how badly things were mismanaged. And honestly FWIW, I think either one of Gillispie’s Kentucky squads would run this current team off the floor.

I still believe Pope can get this going in the right direction, and I’m rooting for him . But the improvement needs to come fast.
