Anomalyout28 - you missed one match up which is a non conference. Wheaton North vs. Joliet Catholic Academy. Who do you like in that matchup?

NN over MV
WV over GN (sorry got to vote with my heart on this one)
NV over NC
LP over WWS
WN over JCA

I left that game off because mainly because I do not know enough about JC this year and their lone loss to a team from Wisconsin. Just like I will leave off my prediction week 5 when NV plays a team from Indiana, week 6 when NC plays a team from Ohio, week 7 when WV plays a team from Indiana. It would be great for WN to get the "W" and playoff points for the other DVC teams who might only get five wins.
I believe you can read a lot based on one game, even if it is the first game of the year. WWS will be much tougher this year after playing WN tough for most of the game and giving up two huge special teams plays.
LP (who came away with zero points after being inside the ten TWICE) will be tough after giving WV a game.
I was not high on NC before their lopsided lose to GN (as explosive as they are) and think they are going to be one of those DVC teams right around the five win mark.
And I think MV lopsided loss really showed they are in for a long season.

NN over MV
GN over WV
NV over NC
LP over WWS
GN over WV
NV over NC
NN over MV but just barely
JC over WN
WWS over LP barely

Based on the first weeks results... GN looks like the team to beat and should handle WV... NC is a year away but should be more competitive as the season progresses... NV probably the 2nd strongest team in the DVC... LP looked pretty tough last week on Cube but WWS should squeak by... NN has some nice weapons on O, but still concerned about the defense... MV far more athletic than rebuilding Sandburg... WN should give JC a good game (expect a great game).

WWS played without their starting QB but were still able to build a 2 TD 2nd half lead before they collapsed in the 4th quarter. It could be another long year.

Reactions from Friday's DVC games...

* Wheaton North is the real deal, should be in the mix for DVC title
* Still think GN is the team to beat in DVC
* Waubonsie with wins over two very good teams gives them early advantage in DVC
* Neuqua looking great on defense, gives DVC four top 20 teams in Chicago area
* NC much more competitive in 2nd game, improving each week
* Lake Park good enough to win in just about any other conference
* WWS solid but just not enough horses to hang with DVC elite
* Metea has some of the same issues as NN... see below
* NN struggling on D, undisciplined play, too many mistakes... big step backwards

DVC power rankings after week two...

Top four teams by a country mile... all top 20 in Chicagoland

1 Glenbard North (still think they win the DVC)
2 Waubonsie (survive and advance)
2 Wheaton North (shockingly easy win over Joliet Catholic... wow!)
2 Neuqua (schedule gets tougher moving forward)

Middle of the pack

5 Lake Park (looked good against Waubonsie, solid win over WWS)

Bottom 4 still solid... fighting for five wins

6 Naperville Central (still trying to find an offense, talented junior class)
6 Naperville North (will be another long year unless the Huskies solve defensive issues)
6 WWS (hard to win in the DVC if you lose your starting QB)
6 Metea (nice RB, QB, and DL... OL needs work, too many mistakes and pass D vulnerable

Neuqua/Waubonsie next week is going to be a sledgehammer game.

GBN has the best back 4 on one high school team that I have ever seen in person. They were fantastic. They came up from 10 yards deep in run support to make tackles for a gain of two or no gain that were 6-7 yard gains against lake park.

I thought the key to the game was going to be WV inability to punch in a score on the opening drive when we slammed it down their throat running the ball taking up 7 minutes of the first quarter and then turning it over on downs inside their 15. I thought that was coming back to haunt us, but the magic happened at the end.

Same thing happened against a very good lake park team. We drove it up and down the field but when we got inside their 10. The refs threw some questionable flags and we end up turning it over on downs. 420+ yards of offense and only 16 points vs lake park.

Towards the end of the game it looked like GBN was getting very tired. In their first game their darters were pulled towards the end of the 3rd quarter. To beat GBN when they are healthy and at full strength I think you have to try and hang with them in striking distance and try and wear them down in the 4th quarter.

If WV can
1 finish drives and
2 shore up their run D (GBN has a fantastic RB and he hurt us bad all night) and
3 stay healthy

Then....They should win a lot of games and make the playoffs in the DVC. Tough rivalry game to get up for next week, then the tough DVC slate and then a non conf game against a top 5 in state of Indiana team.
