On the positive for WWS they return around 8-9 starters and a few more kids that played a lot. This will be the most returning players that they have had in a few years.

Great thread all year @Anomalyout28 appreciate the effort tracking everyone's picks.

My final take on the 2016 DVC is that it was overall back to a top tier conference. Unfortunately, it wasn't able to vindicate itself with a 7/8A champion. Top to bottom, all teams could compete against the high end of any other 7/8A conference in the state. A few tough early match ups in the playoffs (NV/GBN) that may have knocked a few teams out ahead of where they may otherwise have fallen, but if you're a fan of the DVC, I think you have to be happy with the competitiveness the season produced.

Lastly, given the apparent changes coming, I may have to pour one out for the DVC as we know it. Though it has gone through a massive shift already with the addition of the Naperville/Aurora Valley's, it would be an utter shame to see this conference decimated from what it once was. Times are always changing, but this lizard hopes that despite change, the DVC can still be a bright spot for Illinois football.

I think the conference itself will remain a bright spot however, having that many solid teams duke it out isn't the best for IHSA. If you take the bottom 4 teams out and put them in a different conference, they probably all make the playoffs and create more interesting match ups. I am not taking anything away from any current team remaining in the playoffs however with 1-32 seeding, you would expect better match ups within the first and second round games. So far 8A is pretty balanced but 7A could use a little more teams and Both Wheatons would have made a difference.

I am not completely in the know, but I have heard that Nap C will be the team to beat next year.

Not many of us are "In The Know" that is why we read these threads to try & get as much info as possible. I also have heard about NC being one of the teams to beat next year.
But getting back to VooDoo's DVC preview, NC, WV & LP all are returning around 12 starters so these three teams should be considered to be near the top, but I know, it is early & we will see & hopefully hear (on these threads)

Wait, what? Not a single quarterfinalist and we have them as Top Tier?
That's a fair point.

As I mentioned, I think you could chalk NV and GBN exits to a tough early matchup. Any other spot on the bracket and they may be your quarterfinals right there. Put GBN on the top side of 7A and I think they make the title game, ESL is a buzzsaw. I don't think I have an objective answer, but subjectively I felt that the DVC was strong top to bottom and could have had multiple mid level teams finish much higher in other conferences.

Given the CCL Blue being "down", the ESCC being a "dumpster fire" - what conferences top to bottom do you have ahead of DVC this year?

I've heard from a few NC senior FB parents that they expect a big bump back next year. Played a ton of JR's this year. Wouldn't be surprised to see them have a bounce back like NN did this year in a similar situation.
I am not completely in the know, but I have heard that Nap C will be the team to beat next year.

Fair enough, but I would say the CCL-B and CCL-G are top heavy, everyone else Tire Fire. DVC no quarterfinalists for the first time in a million years, Dumpster Fire. ESCC, TBD, but likely Dumpster Fire after this weekend if Benet loses.

I would say no conference is having a great year, but the FVC, SWS and WSS are doing ok. Just an odd year with no cream really rising to the top, at least in the Chicagoland area.

Yeah, Last year DVC had one semi finalist - but that team knocked two other DVC teams out of the playoffs to get there. I think NC last year in the opposite bracket would have been very interesting - but that's not how it played out.

Disappointing that no DVC team made it to the quarters this year (first time in like forever, someone said?). I thought GBN would do it but got beat on last second TD pass.

I have been saying for most of the year that 2016 DVC did not have the usual one or two "dominate teams" this year. The top wasn't "top top" but the mid and bottom were much much stronger and would have fared very well in other conferences.

Yeah - I think NC will be very good next year. WV has the potential to also be very very good, I think LP will be a very interesting team next year, agree that WWS will be very interesting to watch next year as well. I think a couple of teams will be "hot messes" so I would have to dance around that to not offend folks, but I think you may see a more "normal" conference make up next year with a couple of dominant teams, some really good teams, and a couple of "Hot Messes"

I don't want to recycle and re-heat my old post leftovers - but it would be a good offeseaon thread. Maybe I will take another crack at it with more detail down the road! Always have to have the qualifier - kids transferring in, transferring out, etc. Some team could get 3 total ballers that move into the district with Mom/Dad and the new jobs and change the makeup fairly significantly.

I'd say revisit it June 15. Couple weeks into summer practice, a 7v7 or 2.

I will say this. If WV can find some kids that can play the line, have to be an 8A title favorite, they are loaded coming back at the skills.Several kids will be 3 year starters. And it also sounds like should see a few Sophs. playing up as well.

Yup you nailed it. Of the Five Starting O-lineman and Four Starting D-lineman from this years team - 8 of the 9 were seniors and 1 was a Junior (one Soph got some significant playing time during the year). The Sophs that will be Juniors next year have 3 to 4 very nice potential starters on both O and D Lines assuming they put the work in at the weight room and speed/agility/track. A couple of Juniors that will be Seniors could also be key factors I would think.

WV had a very very nice Frosh team this year. The Frosh that will be Sophs next year might have 3 or 4 kids that make an impact next year on varsity and 2 or 3 might be able to win starting spots in my opinion. I don't think it will be like two years ago with 6 to 8 Sophs up on varsity - but it will be more than a usuall year due to the talent level on the current Frosh team.

I would also offer this prognostication - They could make a nice deep run next year in any event - but in order to truly be a legit challenger for an 8A title per your comment - I think 2 or 3 guys would need to see significant time on both sides of the ball for that to be a realistic Objective/Goal from me standing on the outside looking in and trying to be as objective as I can. Just my opinion. I don't think they will be deep enough to fully two platoon without leaving some areas vulnerable enough for other teams to exploit/expose to a tipping point in some games (especially playoff games when the teams one is facing get much better. .

Oh boy the 7v7's seem to be the Kiss of Death. The "winners" of some of the major 7v7 tournaments this past summer didn't fair too well in the regular season. Perfectly happy everyone getting the reps and such - but I don't take much stock in 7v7 success or failure in the summer

I would agree. I think this year might get circled by the WV staff and they know this might be a now or never scenario to go get a title. And I imagine once the weather turns mid-season, you'll see some kids all over the field.

He will be back. he is a junior this year. he was one of the 6-8 Sophs there were brought up and played on last years Semi Final team.
Thanks Voodoo Tatum 21.
Illini14 - Tell the WV staff to circle in pencil. LWE will be considerably better next year.

I would love to see a re-match next year! I bet quite a few of the WV underclassmen would like it as well for some redemption.

But hey - a long time until next season, I would just like to see them take care of the ball (had a few games of the dreaded "turnoveritus" disease this year) and to generate a few more impact plays on defense (we didn't force a lot of turnovers this year) and win a DVC conference championship first before thinking about playoffs. With a lot of the skills guys being seniors next year - I think we will have far fewer turnovers and we will generate quite a few more takeaways. That usually means good things for winning games

I do agree. From what I've gathered on the board, and this isn't a surprise, Zvonar has had to play a lot of politics this year.

I think next year that dies out considerably, and by year 2018 is somewhat gone and its just business as usual.

From a neutral outside POV, LWE could go on a serious run in 2017 and onward. I have no inside knowledge, no knowledge of talent in the pipeline, but you have to think that will be the top public school program in the state hands down very, very soon.
