I've always had another take on the degree of Casey's involvement, not that he was unaware of what was going on. He left the envelope open for a reason - to get stuffed with cash. Being the source of the $1000 was above his pay grade. His HOF HC was not given serious scrutiny until later and his HOF AD totally escaped without a whisper. This was the same AD who was in charge during the Hundred Dollar Handshake era.
This is probably more about him being a successful NBA coach than his days as a CAT. I actually did some work in the coal mines in his hometown of Morganfield and I can tell you, credit to him for getting out of a place like that and becoming successful.
Dwayne is very deserving of this honor. From the western Kentucky coal mines to NBA Coach of the Year. Congrats !
I think if I read correctly, they had 3 major Division 1 players in Union County during the 1970's in basketball.
