Headlines on YAHOO this afternoon is Dylan Favre and the St. Stan championship. USM has offered with "interest from MSU and FIU". States the handicap may be his height, 5 11 - but the kid plays safety on defense and punts as well. An athlete, nephew of hall of famer, with first choice in another article being MSU. I know the board talked about him last week - but look at YAHOO, guys!

and then make a play at a big time high school QB next year, maybe the guy from IAHS. I think I've seen enough of Favre to know we need to take a chance on him. I think the numbers would have to work out for him a get a hard offer, but at the very least offer him a greyshirt.

Seen way too many guys like this pan out and do great things. I say roll the dice. The guy is legit 5'11" and 190 lbs. which is good size, not ideal by any means. But it's not 5'8" 180 whatever Lee and Henig were.

If we do what you suggest, do you see Favre starting at any point?

but I see alot of guys just like him go run spread offenses and rack up big time numbers. Hate to see we passed on one right under our noses. What's the cost? One scholarship. What's the reward? You tell me.

What kind of question is that? Do you see Chris Relf ever starting? How about Tyler Russell? You don't know.

I don't see much downside to bringing him in .. there's a chance he'll be a contributor someday, and if nothing else, I would hope would make some donations .... would he not?

We wouldn't want a Grishom situation on our hands. Besides, we're supposed to pay for the players, not the other way around.

Cost = 1 scholly
Reward = maybe Tyson 2.0, maybe extremely solid.

As long as it doesn't sway another good qb recruit to not choose us, either this year or next year, I'm cool.

You just don't know which ones are going to pan out and which ones aren't. But you have to sign a HS QB every year. Your logic sounds a lot like Crxxm's logic. Well, we already have so and so, or we think we can sign so and so next year, so we don't need to sign anybody this year. And you see where that got us. We need to sign a HS QB this year whether we sign Newton or not. My first choice would be Brunetti, but if we can't get him, it's defnintely worth it to use a scholarship on Favre. Hell, those things are annually renewable. If he does suck, we can always cut him loose (i.e. he transfers to Delta St.). But from what I saw, I don't think he'll suck.

Don't let the last name fool you - this is an average prospect at best. And, a prospect that doesn't fit the mold of the athletic QB which our system favors.

You never know, he could turn out great, but I think some are getting visions of #4 in their heads and distorting reality.

He is a Favre by name only. He is not blood kin. Not saying he is good or not but lots of people keep saying he is a "Favre" while in actuality he is not. If he's good, offer him if not forget the name.

Go Dawgs! 41 and 2 knees to 27!

The problem is that he has a 3/4 to sidearm delivery which makes his release point much lower than other 5'10" QBs. He has 2 offers: USM and Northwestern State. There is a reason for that..... he's not a very good QB prospect, period. If it weren't for his last name, then all the back and forth about him would be going on. Don't buy into all that "we didn't offer his uncle either" crap. Brett played in a HS offense that never threw the ball, before the days of summer 7 on 7 camps, scouting combines, etc etc. USM didn't even offer Brett until the day before signing day and that was as a DB. It wasn't until he got to campus that they realized what they had. Dylan on the other hand has been watched since his sophomore year. He's been to the camps, the 7 on 7s, the combines, the whole nine yards and still no BCS school has seen anything in talents worth offering. If we end up offering, it will be because we absolutely struck out with the other QBs on our board.

He is Jeff's biological son. Jeff is Brett's brother...so...blood relative?

According to most educated Mississippians, that would be a blood relative.

He can play...sign him up. People that don't know football associate him with Tyson Lee because of height. Tyson Lee was an average HS QB at best, much less setting every statistical record in MS history. He led his team to the state championship...MVP in a game against a team stacked with athletes. Tyson do anything like that? Columbus High and ICC have zero reputation for football. What did you expect at MSU? Favre can play. If Tyson Lee STARTED for us, Favre can do more.

One scholarship would be a great investment...if QB doesn't work out, then the Dogs can always play him in the secondary.

I don't see him beating out Tyler, but I do see him RS this year.

He could service as a great insurance policy.
Injuries could project him into the lineup his Jr. Sr year...
He doesn't really have any other offers and is licking his chops to come to State.

People who do know football (D1 coaching staffs) disagree or else he would have for than a single D1 offer. What other sub 6ft 2-star QB with one CUSA offer has commanded so much demand from our fanbase???? People are just enamored with his last name, that's it. Watch his video. He throws the damn ball sidearm.

He's small, but he's a hell of a QB and a lot of people are going to be embarrassed they didn't recruit him in 4 years.

As a matter of fact, Tyson was well on his way to proving them right in junior college.

But, a funny thing happened on the way to the SEC championship ....

What little I've seen of him, I did not like the sidearm throws that just kind of looped out to the WRs. I don't see how he will see over a scrimmage line made up of guys 6' 3" and up. Seems like you're just asking for a repeat of this year with 3 or 4 balls a game getting batted down.

Orgeron and the Spirit fawned over him.

He was the same size as Favre.

He now plays for Northern Arizona, his proper place.

I don't have anything against sub 6 foot QBs, but generally they have to work harder to prove themselves. Flutie is proof that it can work, Brees around 6 foot is doing wonders right now. I'm not going to judge Favre against Lee, but any coach that recruits him is going to have to change the sidearm throw and who knows what that does to Favre's game. That's alot of the reason why he is so risky to take. In the case with Lee, he didn't have great vision not because of his height, he just never knew who to throw the ball to, and the arch on his throw was terrible, hence the batted passes. He was a terrible decision maker while he was at State. Things were just too fast for him I think and he never learned to adjust or was just unable to.

What little you've seen of him? Like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61ps8zPzTmc

The throw before halftime for TD that was fit through the D? Or the one for 65-yd TD that was just over the DB's hands into his own WR hand?

You're worried about the process...the product shows that it has been successful.

I can tell you right now that Dylan Favre at 17 (that's the number, not a substitute for f***) has a much stronger arm than Tyson Lee ever had and is a better QB than Tyson Lee ever showed that he was at MSU.
