Not mentioned much, because of the the punt return; but his running in the 1971 Oklahoma - Nebraska game victory was as fine a performance as any in our history. His uniforms getting shredded and torn as he sliced for yards after contact. ..... I am guessing if you put a copy of his adrenaline levels for that game into a tank; it could drive straight through a mountain. GBR

Without him we lose that game. Husker fans should watch him and focus on his effort in the 4th quarter.

That last drive against OU in 71, with the exception of the clutch 3rd and 8 pass to Rodgers, was all Kinney. A thing of beauty!

Bremser: "74 yards on that drive! 74yards! And Nebraska forges into the lead 34-31. Oh Man, Woman, and Child, I never thought I would live this long to see this kind of a football game! And I am going out of my gord. I can't help it. There is never anything like it.".

Man I miss Bremser...

Yeah, bigger than o-linemen on his team too. Super strong arm and athletic.
This is stretching a then very young memory way back; but I believe Jeff came to N as a qb recruit. Along with Jerry Tagge, VanBronson, and at least one other that became an outstanding DB star; maybe two. Coach D was determined to have qb options and hit the bonanza. I believe their were 5 qb recruits in that class; of course he had a young T O and Monte Kiffin to move them around. GBR

Great memory! He played both running back and quarterback for McCook. He was recruited by both Osborne and Devaney and had a number of other big offers. He chose NU and was given a chance at both positions, but moved permanently to running back very quickly after seeing Tagge and Van Brownson. Ha

Yes. There were 7. Unbelievable. But he did not stay long at QB.

If memory serves at that time there were no scholarship limits so you could do crazy things like recruit 7 QB's...

I am not sure about scholarship limits that year; but then or soon after the Big 8 had a 45 scholarship level I believe. But Coach D was a no nonsense guy at times; he was going to get his top qb. .... It seems like conferences set their limits then and independents could do what they wanted. I don't recall if Pittsburgh was independent; but I believe Johnny Majors went in there and gabe out between 185-212 scholarships in one year, of course they mercilessly cut people. His reward was Tony Dorsett and a National Title - but terrible effect on the student/ fb players - It led to massive changes in how things were managed. GBR
