-14 vs Kansas looks great, wouldn't touch -9 vs Maryland with a 10 foot pole.

By that we only have to beat Texas and get two upsets for nine wins. Where did the get the odds for TCU and Baylor?

I would agree with most of those but with our defense I can't see us losing to anyone but more than three touchdowns. We'll beat Texas, slaughter Kansas and Iowa State and beat either Baylor or TCU.

Oklahoma State at home? I do not think so.

What I worry about is that the team getting broken before the second half of the season. 3-3 before the off week and 3-2-1 after. I remember 2013 when we lost to Texas in OT we were 4-6 with two easy games left at Kansas and ISU at home - but the team was finished. Final record 4-8.

I'm not a gambler and a lot of those lines look close to what I would expect but there is no way TCU is beating WVU by 24.

I personally think we will be surprising in a good way so I would take us in most of these matchups right now. The rest of the country assumes our defense is awful, and without Trickett and White our offense will not be that great. Bust realistically, the defense should be solid, and Howard is probably an upgrade over Trickett. Obviously losing White hurts the most but he is only a WR, an easy position to dig up talent especially in a scheme like ours.

GSU is 1-23 in two seasons of FBS football, with their lone victory coming over some school named Abilene Christian. That 13 point line doesn't seem correct, it should be atleast 24 IMO.

Georgia State has gone 1-23 over the past two years. We're playing Georgia Southern who won the Sun Belt with a 9-3 record last year.

TCU and Baylor are both top ten..Baylor has 17 retuning starters, but they have to replace Petty..TCU returns T Boykin who threw for almost 4,000 yards and will be a front-runner for the Heisman..pick your poison..we play both of them away, and I'm not surprised by the early lines.

Growing up watching a lot of college football and Texas being among the more "storied" programs I could not have imagined even having the opportunity to play them every year much less being paired evenly with them ever, and even beating them. I just love the Big XII and look forward to this season maybe even more than last.

I need to put some coin down on that Okie St. Line....all else looks pretty bang on imo....that Longhorn matchup should be a good one...

I'd say it looks pretty accurate . . . today.
But injuries, as always, change the equation. No one knows that better than WVU fans who lived through the good Trickett/hurt Trickett season.
Only Ohio State can win a national title with a 3rd string quarterback.
I don't think it's a given that Skylar Howard will be the QB for the entire season. If William Crest comes in, because Skylar has a concussion in mid-game or whatever, and pulls out kahonies out of the fire, he could wind up the guy.
We might blow Maryland out of the water if we have all our ducks lined up by then. But, mostly, I can't quarrel too much with the line, for now.

There's the rub. Baylor's program isn't to the point where it can lose a starting QB, and be a top 10 team at the end of the next year. A returning starting QB has been the key to a successful college offense since Pop Warner was roaming the sidelines. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

As much as Boykin likes to tuck the ball and run, he may not make until the end of October. He's not an unknown quantity at QB like he was early last year. Opponents are going to be lighting him up early and often from game one, knowing that TCU is basically a one man team.

I don't know about that assertion, Mike. They broke in Petty as a brand-new starter in 2013 and won the conference outright, finishing #13 in both polls. What more could you want from a program?

It's also a bit dubious to suggest that TCU is "basically a one man team". Nobody finishes 12-1 without some serious talent at numerous positions. It didn't all graduate.

It's pretty much what I expected, too. Although Georgia Southern won their conference, they lost most of their O-line starters and the Mountaineer D should be a dominating force - I would think we would be favored by more but hey, it is the opening game.

Take WVU with that spread vs TCU. Neither has ever blown out the other and WVU is going to remember last years game. I think TCU will win but no way by more than 10.

I could even see them winning by 14-17, but not the 25 necessary to cover.

Baylor is far more likely to cover their large spread. There's simply a major difference in how the two contenders play the game.

Imagine what would have happened if WVU lost Major Harris midway through the '88 season. 11-0 would have turned into 8-3 in the blink of an eye. Petty is TCU's Harris, the offense is built around him. If he gets hurt or has a bad year, you can stick a fork in them. TCU has one good year in big boy football, and people think they're the next USC.

Baylor is a similar program, they've been decent to good for a tad over a half decade. The talent isn't all that deep at either school. Both are highly overrated this season and as overall programs.

Oklahoma, Texas and K-State worry me much more than the above two teams.
